What is the worst car you ever owned, and why?

My first car was a mini back in the early 80's. Lovely car but always something wrong with it. You had to hold the choke out with a peg, if you slammed the door too hard the bonnet would open. Broke down one night in the middle lane of hanger lane roundabout on an uphill bit in the pouring rain. Driving up the M1 in the rain and a lorry went passed soaking the engine so the mini slowed down to about 10 mph in protest, until the engine dried out again.
The worst car for breaking down would have to be my Rover had the head gasket done about 4 times, but I still loved that car. Its just recently gone to the crushers

In the mid 80's I owned a 'W' reg BMW 320. It was the the only car I ever owned that I never felt confident I would get home in when setting off.0

A new 1.6 V reg Astra. Thought it was OK til 2 years later an uninsured bloke hit me in passenger side door on Gants Hill roundabout.
Insurance assessor came to look at car and found an inch of water in footwell! !!!!!!! Not related to accident. Car spent 3 months at Blakes for them to hold up their hands and say they had no idea where water was coming in.!!!!!!! Ended up at Marehay where they found that a piece of welding had been missed by the robot. !!!!!!!
Shortly after that was fixed the elecrics started playing up. I'd drive to the next village and when I got back in the car the lights would refuse to come back on. But it was intermittent and usual fixes didn't work. Final straw was when lights went off (all of them!) as I was driving along! At that point I traded it in for the Ford. I will never have another Vauxhall.Don't grow up. Its a trap!
Peace, love and labradors!0 -
Didn't you notice 1" of water in your footwell?
For two years?0 -
By a country mile - Mercedes A-class, that my wife talked me into buying.
Unreliable, expensive and uncomfortable. Never again!

Ive been gemerally lucky with cars but the last few years not been able to pay for a good en. I had a Megane 1.4 had it for 5 years sold it recenlty but never had any probes except for the usual stuff, tyres exhaust break shoes etc. But my last car megane scenic had a few issues and i got rid of it for 4 tyres for my sons car.
My son has had a few 'duffers' but hes young and what looks good he thinks will run fine, so let me start.
Passed his test and I bought him a 106 from Leeds Auction. Went through a wall within a month. We repaired the damage but gear box went so scrapped it. car 1 cost £800 scrapped for 100 within 1 year.
car 2. Mg ZR cost £3000 01 plate. had it 1 year lost control on A! last year in all that bad weather, write off, insurance payout £1500,
car 3. MGZR 1.8 £3000. had it 8 months sold for £500, radiator blew cost 300 to repair. Head gasket blew and needed something else doing also at a cost of 600. then going great until ECU went, no indicators was going to cost over 300 to repair this was a when the car was sold on ebay for 1300 so could not sell with faulty ECU. Traded in at a 'garage' for a clio, read the threads on that.
So his driving life at the moment has had a few issues.
Parental advice: I told him not to but the second MG ZR after the first one was thirsty on oil and water, always needed topping up. Insurance was 3000 also. Did not take advice!!All the big powers they've silenced me. So much for free speech and choice on this fundamental human right, and outing the liars.0 -
You should not buy any car which:
a) is an MG / Rover
b) has a K series engine.0 -
I had an avenger, nothing major went wrong, a headlight fell out, I taped it back in,
Ha ha. I had that as well, I forgot about that. The main difference then is it wasn't usually terminal and could be repaired with a bit of tape or string. I drove it back from Scotland with a bit of string fed through the bulkead to work the throttle by hand and a rubber band to close the throttle again.
Probably a bit dangerous on reflection!0 -

Nope. Very thick foam under carpet. Carpet didn't even feel wet from the top.
How often do you pull back your carpets/foam and look at the chassis of your car?
Not a fair question really. It's a people carrier I use for work as well.
The amount of plaster, cement, I clean out, and screws and stuff I lose in the back, about once a week.0
