What is the worst car you ever owned, and why?

The worst car i ever owned was a Mini 1000 back in 1982/83.
I passed my test and bought it for £80,it was a 1970 model on H plate.
Virtually everything possible went wrong with this car!
The drum brakes were a nightmare, forever adjusting them,i had a engine valve burn out,a brake pipe leak which left me with no brakes(and that was scary),and every time it rained and i drove thruough a puddle it cut out!
Money does not bring happiness...but if you are already happy it does bloody help! :rotfl:

Moskvich in the early 1980s - you always knew the brakes would pull one way or the other when you operated them - but you didn't know which way!

G reg Renault Savanna bought in 1996. OH bought it because we needed a 7 seater. It cost over £4000, stank of fish, had chewing gum for brakes (which still didn't work after we spent over £300 getting them fixed!) We kept it for 6 months. It's the least time we've ever kept a car. It was rank.

Never owned a 'bad' car in that one I hated. My old Fiat Tipo was a piece of crap, but I felt like knightrider with the digital dashboard, and loved it! Only 2 cars I've ever hated, were a 1.4l 2008 polo hire car, which I was hoping to crash on the way home from a meeting, just so I could sit in a recovery van for the rest of the journey, and the other is our company 1.2 silver plasticky, depressing, underpowered crappy Corsa, which I always leave unlocked hoping some poor mug will half inch it. I really feel for those people who own one, must be heart breaking :(

My first car a Austin not sure what model I got it in early 90's. It was a pig for a while due to intermittent fault took several mechanics to final find out it was a simple fault. I haven't had that many cars I tend to run them for several years, I do look after them service, valeting by me
  • When I passed my car at 18 I saved up for my first car and bought a ford escort. had it a couple of days and it broke down on the motorway - scared me half to death. Anyway got it towed to garage and they found out it was two half of cars welded together  stealer ..sorry ..dealer would not give me my money back and I lost my years savings on a worthless piece of junk!

I have never owned a bad car but motorcycles is a different matter. The worst one I ever owned was a Laverda Mirage 1200TTS. It vibrated like a jack hammer above 4000rpm, had indifferent finish, was thirsty and it wasn't reliable. A valve spring broke whilst on a trip to France which resulted in a costly rebuild of the top end of the engine. The bike had only done 10000 miles and was three months out of warranty. The UK importer didn't want to know. What a heap that was!

  • My most hated was an N reg 1.8diesel Escort, and not even a TDi. It was the dullest and most under powered bucket of festering donkey poop that I've ever had the misfortune to drive - and that's saying a lot as I've driven a Berlingo.
Worst mechanically was my N reg Golf VR6. Looked the part but something would go wrong everytime I set the clock
  • This - looks lovely, doesn't it? Plastic pile of cr*p. I hated it with a vengeance. Bought it from new, couldn't wait to get rid. I kept it for less than a year and spent most of that year planning what to get next!

The worst car I've owned was also one of my favourites, my corrado gave me no end of grief when I had it, even sent me to a+e one night (ok it might have been my own fault...) but when I had it working it was one of the best cars I've driven for giving a sense of occasion for what was very little money really.

We had a Daf 33 Marathon coupe in the 70's - excellent condition but one big design fault. It had the Daf rubber band CVT and no differential, the theory being that the two sides could adjust to appropriate gearing to give a differential effect when cornering. Simply didn't happen so rapid rear tyre wear , nasty snatchy feeling on sharp corners and several belt breakages. DAf admitted that there was a problem by including a proper diff. in the later models.
