It's even easier (and quicker!) not to mention CHEAPER to rustle up your own pastry. Takes 3 mins, honestly.
8oz flour (plain) and 4oz fat (marg or butter) and enough water to help to bind it into a rollable consistency. The more quickly you combine the ingredients the better. Overworked pastry isn't as good.
It's actually the one thing that improves when you are lazy!
If I'm making a chicken pie I always add a tin of campbells condensed cream of chicken soup to the filling. It's also brilliant for making chicken and mushroom vol au vents or chicken fricasee with riceMy husband says he will leave me if I don't stop shopping......... God I will miss that man.0 -

Mum always does this with a turkey leg and whoopsied veg, to be eaten as stew woith dumplings one day, then pie crust on it a day or so later. yummy and so cheap.
Are a star! You just reminded me of a bag of suet I was given. A mate bought a huge bag and gave me some from it. I've yet to use it.
I am so gonna make proper dumplings now! I even have a couple of whopping turkey drumsticks in the freezer. I don't like the meat from them on their own as it is very dark but in a lobby (thats stew from where im from!) they are fab!
I love food. I can talk about it all day!
Last night I made a heavenly meal n pud.
Pork loin chops in an orange/honey and rosemary sauce. The remaining sauce in the roasting tin was added to some creme fraiche to drizzle over the meat.
I served it on a swede and potato mash (made creamy with the rest of the creme fraiche!) and accompanied with buttered broccoli and carrot.
ALL items were whoopsied. We had a dinner guest too and it went down a treat.
Pudding was fruit crumble to use up my whoopsied fruits.
I made the crumble topping separately though. It was made with oats, flaked almonds and ground almonds, a bit of ginger, butter, sugar and then drizzled with syrup on the tray. It tasted like the nicest granola I've ever had. I'm gonna do it like this again next time!
