I just changed things one step at a time.

My diet needed to improve and I'm no good at staying in control and weighing myself so made the deciscion to join weight watchers and just took it one day at a time...it all becomes 2nd nature in the end.

Stopping smoking...I've had a couple of goes at this but have now only about 10 days left to go before I'm off medication for that.It has affected my diet a little but needed doing anyway..again one day at a time.

Exercise..this is really difficult for me due to weight and severe osteo arthritis.I do try to have a little walk each day if my body can take it.I can do a lot more than I could as when I joined WWs I couldn't even stand but nowhere near what a normal person can do .Eventually as the weight goes down and my body totally recovers(hopefully) from all the treatments I've had then I'll get much fitter...baby steps for this one as it's a very fine line for me between pain and total exhaustion but eventually it will be right...I will not give up that's for sure.

No taxi i have no doubt you never will ... you do really great at what you set your mind too ... what you have been through in the last while mustve been such a horrible experience for you ... but you've turned your life round and that in itself is no small achievement

my diet is not too bad tbh .. yes i do eat rubbish ... but i eat mainly very healthy, i dont eat McD's etc for eg ... i eat lots and lots of veg ... but i do like things like ben and jerry's ice-cream so that needs to go ... along with the coffee and chocolate for when i am night shift ( i dont even like chocolate ... i just need the sugar)

i dont smoke or drink which is good

but i dont excercise nearly enough ... with the job i have i dont get movement as basically i am unit bound and i need to keep very quiet as people are sleeping ... on my days off i have no energy or i have to do this and that for other people ( or myself ) so trying to get the time to excercise is really hard

that is going to have to change i am forcing myself to find the time ... i think also changing units to day time will make a huge impact on what i aim on achieving

deff baby steps though Taxi ... two forward and one back if needs must

when i think of all the stress we have been under in the last (nearly) 3 years i spose it comes as no surprise that something gave way

Stress is definitely something that needs to be minimised as it manifests itself in many ways.I believe that stress contributed to my cancer and the DRs and heath staff go all out to try and remove stress from your life whilst suffering with cancer. It's funny but I don't let anything stress me anymore as nothing is worth affecting your health for and worrying about something doesn't affect the outcome at the end of the day..only positive steps will affect the outcome.

I think excercise is the most difficul;t one to crack.
Like taxi for me there is a very fine line between pain & exhaustion.
But I try to keep plodding on.
Also for me my medication makes me so bleeping tired which doesent help as doesent always worrying about £££'s.
    Baby steps and all that.

Skinty i used to be a very excercisey person ... I do love excercise ... I just find i dont have time or i'm tired due to work ... I used to be in the gym 4 times a week ... Loved the gym ... I need to get back to this night shift or not

Went out for a cycle tonight ...i thought my bum was better till i sat on my new seat ... Yep i'm still bruised :( ... Hopefully though my new seat will be fine for me once the bruising has healed

I do enjoy cycling but with my current chest infection it was quite hard ... But i took it easy and stopped anytime i felt it was getting too much so i was being careful

Gently does it with the exercise as you don't want to over do it and become ill especially as you don't know why your BP is so high..well done on the cycling

Sugar's a bit of a drug TBH. I've been able to blow my head off effectively sometimes when on a binge. Tis not good, you need slow release fruit sugars rather than the refined crap.

I think part of the problem El is working nights. it really messes your body clock up, messes everything up really. With your stress at work it really is a magical combination. Stress has a purpose, if you're at work and there's a sabre tooth tiger or mad axeman round the corner stress will help you, if it's about management being c**p and not managing you don't need to wrestle a tiger to the ground and the stress will just fur your arteries including your carotid ones.

The bottom line is we need you out of that job, into a day job and that should help work on the rest. I agree with Taxi on the exercise front, steady as you go.

Isn't sugar commonly referred to as the cocaine of the legal world ? I do agree i think that i need to change to days ... It will deal with the sugar /coffee / excericse problem ... I have been looking for day shift jobs since last year ... But i want the right final job for me... Not another oh that'll do till such times and then before i know it such times is seven years later and i am very unhappy :(

I will be taking it easy on the excercise front ... Slow and steady wins the race ... This is about lifestyle changes and not quick fixes as Taxi (quite rightly) pointed out

Today i am having a very easy day ... Going to have my tea and toast then back to bed ... Then a wee bit of gardening then back to bed ready for work

A very simples day planned :)

Maybe don't focus on your "forever" job at the moment - like the other things that are steps in the right direction, a new job that has *something* better than the one you are in, eg better money, better conditions or better hours will be enough to help you moving forwards to a more healthy place in general.

At 39, whilst we all want things to be happy ever after, there is plenty of time to make further changes without them being seen as negative.

I talk from experience here - the changes I have made since being 39 are humungous! Do I expect further changes? Well, I wouldn't rule them out!!
