Hi all, very quick message tonight as we have had a very very busy day, spent quite a bit of money ( all budgeted for though so that's ok) and found out some interesting things for our future savings plans
Hope your all well and will try to catch up better tomorrow .. Will have more details then as well ... Mr el and I will be plotting and planning tonight0 -
Well done on the re-mortgage El, that's good news.
I know its not the reason you've done it, but the otherside of it is that at least if you need to - you can choose not to overpay some months or reduce the amount, without it causing problems.

Hi all, back again, will tell you about our weekend first then reply to the other messages,
saturday we took the car to get the tow bar fitted, we had budgeted £300 for it ( the two free council tax months) the tow bar came to £220 the number plate £10 and diesel for borrowing the inlaws car so that we wernt stuck in the garage £10, total £240 so we went for a lovely meal whilst waiting ( any excuse for us to eat out lol)
once we came back from getting the car we headed over to the nearest stove showroom, took one quick look around and left, then headed over to the showroom we had been to before, spoke to the guy that knows about stoves etc and found out some interesting things, we also got organised for a system that would suit our house, the system comes to £12,000 atleast, plus possibly more, the reasons for this is the length of flue that we need plus the size that we need for our home, dont get me wrong it isnt a huge home but as i am sure a few of you will remember it is a very hard to heat home and costs us a fortune to heat.
mr el and i sat down last night and had a good discussion about money, re-mortgaging etc, we also discussed how we dont want to spend that kind've money on the house until we own the house, same as with the kitchen idea etc.
what was really handy was he didnt say oh we will just add it to the mortgage, what he said was right if we want this system then we need to save, but not only save we need to continue to pay our mortgages off at the rate we have planned, so we need to make more money... it was really nice to be able to have this type of conversation with mr el as up till recently he wouldve been arguing about adding it our mortgage or taking a loan out for it.
so we discussed the things that we could sell and how else we could raise some money for the system.
woke up this morning and mr el had started on the garage, now that we have a tow bar we can take our rubbish to the dump, we have been storing a load of stuff in the garage that needs to go to the tip for a while now so we had a lot to get rid of. we started at 9am and didnt finish till just before 5pm, we didnt stop even for a cup of tea so was really hungry by the time we were done, but the garage looks so much better, we brought two boxes of things into the house to sell and cooker for camping that needs fixing ( thus saving us over £60 for buying a new one)
had dinner and put the dinner on for tomorrow, then i started the ironing, whilst i was doing the ironing mr el got the laptop out and got onto music magpie and put quite a few c.d's in for selling, we have so far managed to get 39 loaded for selling, not making alot of money, but clearing space and getting us money for the heating fund, we found a few of them selling for even more on ebay so we are going to keep those ones and sell them on the next free weekend, i have looked out some more books to go as well, so i will get them onto amazon tomorrow ( is there anywhere else i can sell books does anyone know?)
we are now exhausted and sore from all the work we did today, the trailer and towbar are going to be a great investment, i just know come summer that i will be using it alot for the garden
whilst clearing the garage, we spoke to a neighbour that has a stove, he explained that basically he spends hours every day having to chop wood and feed his fire, he also explained that it is very messy, so he has put us kinda off the idea, therefore the system at over £12k might not be happening, however we still need to deal with the lack of heat in this house so we will now save and do some more research, and now that the two of us are working as a team i actually believe we will manage it,
i reminded mr el how i had managed to save the money for us to go to thailand by matched betting basically meaning our holiday was free, so said to him we know we can do it now so why not transfer the idea of getting something cost neutral to a new heating system, he seemed to like the idea as well0 -

i think we may be Skinty,it could be that or the few days off of work i finally got lolFunny how your situation hasn't really changed, but deciding what to do completely alters your mind set. It gives you control over the situation, which is great.
Have added you to my list of people to help when I win the Euromillions. Don't build this into your future plans though as I don't currently buy a ticket :rotfl:.
Yes GG we still owe the same amount but we will pay less interest in paying it back hopefully getting us out of debt that wee bit faster, so our m ind set has altered, it's almost like i can see the end of the road now and even though it is some way off it's less hassle to sort out every month
ohhh thanks for thinking of me with your euro millions, even if you dont buy a ticket :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

yep Angel you are very correct there and it was also something that we did think about, as you say we dont plan on it, but if the car breaks down and we dont have anything left in the savings pot then we can pay the minimum and still manage0 -

12k does seem a lot
it certainly does beanie, this was for a fire downstairs that heats the water and a dual fuel boiler, that you switch on and it uses gas, then put the wood etc in and as the fire heats up it changes from gas to wood( thus saving on the gas bill) , we would also be getting some new radiators fitted as well as some of the radiators are over 30 years old. The boiler would be too big for the house and need to be kept in the garage so there would be all the pipe etc to go from there to the house, the flue costs £150 a meter, we would need 15 meters just for the fire, and we would need 8-10 meters for the boiler... it all mounts up.
i think really the important thing that we have achieved this weekend is forumlated a plan that we both want to work at to save for a heating system without getting into any debt...0 -
Hi El, it's lovely to hear you talking about your joint plans. Things are so much easier if you're both on the same journey.
£12k does seem a lot so hope you can find alternative.

thanks Tilly, i think we will eventually find the system that is right for us, it will take us a long time to save for whatever we want anyway so we will have plenty of time to research it:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
