Absolutely - you can just mess up the interview/ application! Say the wrong things, over or under do your skills. Make it obvious you have no intention of doing the job on a long term basis, you are going to be looking else where.
another good tip to avoid the genuinely unsuitable jobs is to make another cv and leave your phone number off it. if they still make the effort to write to you offering an interview then go to it and explain your situation in a polite way.

I agree with what you said, but it's other's on here suggesting they sabotage their own interview if they have one for a job they don't want. Surely any job would be better than getting harrassed by the JC or WP.
i dont think its to do with a job you dont like. its to do with a job thats unsuitable.

Of course I want to get off the dole but to take a cleaning job for money I can't live on is swapping the misery of the dole for another type of misery - what's the point in that

I think I have a right to choose NOT to take a completely exploitative miserable humiliating job just so the JC can improve their statistics

they do not care about me whatsoever so I also will limit my concern about their hassling me unreasnably

    It's me or them

if push comes to shove I'm under the doctor for depression and on medication so I'll go onto ESA and look for my own job without the unpleasantness - these people are not improving or supporting my job search their sole concern is their own necks meeting their silly targets so I can eliminate them by going on the sick and look for a job myself - the only difference will be that I will not have to deal with their rudeness and degrading ignorant behaviour which is not helping me get work all they achieve is making me feel sick with stress and humiliation - which is no bonus

BTW I live alone and deal with this alone and I can't tell you how this thread has helped me to know other people are in the same boat so thanks to everyone on here

but the new thing isnt for everyone on the wp, only for leavers. so it will be less people for at least for the first few months.
yes but like I have said they sign only about 8 in a hour yet at 45 mins each they will see only 8 in a day and I am sure they were a lot more than 8 going back to the JC since there are over 1500 a week at the WP

We all want ideal jobs but there can be a long wait for our ideal jobs to become available, I am not below doing a cleaning job as there will always be a need for cleaners probably the only profession that is recession proof.

I am not having a go at anyone who thinks they can hold on for their ideal job but you could be waiting a hell of a long time. I currently work 10 hours a week driving cars through an auction I earn not a lot of money but I get nothing off the government anyway apart from NI credits. Plus I work with some nice people and I am learning something new whilst I do it.

  • Cleaners are not recession proof, as companies cut back on cleaning. The one sure recession proof profession is that of the Undertaker, as business booms with a increase in deaths, that you get in a recession

Yes suicide is up - in men

Offices may get rid of cleaners and make the office staff do it. I worked somewhere once and we never had a cleaner and the sites had to do the cleaning too like the loos and all sorts

I just had the interview from hell with 2 women telling me I need to take a cleaning job if I'm offered it as I'm making barriers to find work

I said I can't live off that money in London and they said get tax credits

Of course they have all the power so nothing I said was even considered

it was incredibly unpleasant and it was meant to be

I just to warn anyone who they do this to - try not to argue! - they were definitely trying to antagonise me into saying something incriminating so they could use it as proof that I'm not accepting work

my dole days are over :(

I have to go in tomorrow and I know some dip stick will sit me at a computer and make me apply for every sh*t slave labour job going and wait for me to object so they can stop my money
Look after yourself & hang in there.

Think of it as another tactic, 2 of them haranguing & bullying you, not giving you time to think, looking for mistakes, ways to raise a doubt and sanction referral.

They probably need 2 advisors working together to keep it up, with all the earache they are going to get dealing with the stream of WP returners.

my last job with Manpower we had to take turns cleaning the switchboards - it was ok but deep down we all knew it was another example of exploitation and of them having us exactly where they wanted us

there's a US professor going around at the moment preaching something called predistribution

from what I understand he says there needs to be an overhaul of the entire work system wages, employee rights, the divide between top earners and the rest of the population, the entire toxic culture

he says apart from America the UK stands out globally as having one of the most demeaning unprotected unregulated and exploitative work forces in the world

it's ok for the DWP to be pressurising long term unemployed into jobs because they don't want welfare dependency - but they must also take into consideration people are in a no-win situation between dole and slave labour

    thanks Maggie
