They just want to be little people, bully them into some dead end job that pays a pathetic hourly rate and collect a fat cheque for themselves,
if they continue the way they are i can guarantee if or when i get a job they wont get any money. i wont give the details of the employer to the jobcentre or the provider. i wont even tell the provider that i have signed off. if their attitude improves then of course that will change as i am a reasonable person.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the WP in my first week?? ie how often they make you go etc?
in the first week you are likely to just have an appointment where you get asked questions about what you have done, what you want to do etc. you will also be filling in forms. after that it depends what the provider is like and what your adviser is like. the chances are you will be in there once a fortnight having a 121 or doing jobsearch. on occasion they may make you do some sort of short term course. each time you are there you are likely to have to show evidence of what you have been doing to look for work.

Yours must be different to mine as I have only ever signed the consent form and never filled in anything else nor in my fisrt appt did anyone ask what I had done at previous jobs or why I was unemployed or anything like that. I have to tell each new adviser that I was made redundant as I am sure they assume people have just walked out of jobs.

Odd appts I can cope with, do they not do like the old New Deal and get people in every day for a few weeks at a time?

I'm guessing the courses aren't up to much (going to CDG) but all I really want is a PowerPoint refresher but don't see something like that being offered..

you could be there everyday if they put you on a course or if they dont like you. it is nothing like the old new deal. although the people who run it are the same sort of people as before.

  • If you want a Powerpoint refresher you can just sign up yourself to an ECDL Essentials or Improvers course. Check with your local College as you'll be entitled to full remission of fees.

I've just had a quick google and ECDL seems to cover a whole range of IT stuff?? I'm usually a PA albeit one who just hasn't used PowerPoint in my last couple of jobs so it's a bit rusty but I have all the other skills, just need to go over the PP element in a day or so's course really, the sort of course companies often put staff on, the ECDL seems a bit of an all round course?

Afaik if I go to local adult education, it's only available at a reduced rate.
  • If you are on JSA you can get a lot of courses fully remitted payment wise. As for ECDL you may well be able to just do the Powerpoint module. Otherwise pick up a few books from the library and go through them, usually a few decent easy to follow books available.
