3 years unemployed? Sacked? Oh dear! You are the kind of person the WP is geared up for. Not 'professionals' sorry to say.

I have 4 really good references and still can get interivews.

I can not even get interviews for NMW jobs!

You would have thought they'd have helped me but unfortunately not, I know how to apply for jobs just the problem of references, personal ones were no problem, but work wise references were scarce to say the least as a few of my previous employers are no longer trading.

this is one of my major problems. My most recent reference was GAME but obviously now they have changed hands I'm unlikely to get a reference from them. When I asked about this problem my advisor basically shrugged her shoulders and changed the subject.

    Really helpful

So because the WP didn't help you and there is proof on this thread alone that they are not helping anyone you say we have bad attitudes?

You didn't have a reference due to you being sacked, yes? No ones fault but your own there. Some people have been made redundant with good refs and can't get an interview for shop work let alone a job where they have 20 years experience.

The WP was set up to help people but you have just said it doesn't help anyone.

I have been told it's geared up to the lowest common denominator.

I know the reason I had no references was my own fault no problem there with that, but I also understand that references aren't always taken up. In my old industry I had over 8 years experience plenty of transferable skills but still got over looked for jobs.

The WP only helps those who run the programme, I paid the work broker I had a compliment for the way he helped me out of the rut I was in.

I think some people are in a mindset that it won't help me and they do everything to prove themselves right.
  • Good for you for getting a job Scooby, you will make a massive difference to that mans life. Also you will be able to train for your NVQ 2 and 3, and your employer should put you on other courses such as safeguarding etc. These will then make it easier for you to move upward if thats what you want to do.

Few agencies allow 'drop ins'. Either ring up and ask about any vacancies, they will talk about what they have and what you are looking for. They will ask you to email a CV over. If they like you they will arrange for you to come in and sign up, a mini interview about what you after, motivation, experience, proof of right to work etc.

Best way is probably to send a CV through reed and indeed or via their website.
