  • I'm guessing it means he can claim pension instead? (not an expert on these - but think 30yrs qualifies you for state pension)

nope- my husband is ineligible for JSA because of a small occupational pension - so he never received any benefit from signing on other than NI credits to protect his pension contributions
but once we discovered he had 39 years of contributions - the maximum you need for a full old age pension we decided it was easier NOT to sign on and NOT to have to perform silly tasks such as his advisor at the work programme was suggesting
hubby is not old enough for Old age pension - he is only 55 - but has worked since he was 16 hence the full contributions

it was all about saving time and money by NOT having to attend pointless interviews and activities which would take him away from his job search activities

Thats if u can still get a pension from ni,i always thought u payed tax then if u loose your job u have a fall back but not any more so what do they do with all this money people pay in tax apart from waste it on this silly work programme.

You think you pay tax to fall back on when you lose a job? Eh?

It's NI that pays benefits and pensions etc.

ni is effectively a tax under a different name and even when people claim benefits they are still technically paying ni.

If you have a mortgage, loan or credit card protected by PPI then signing-off is not an option.

Ni or tax then what is the point of paying it u dont need to of paid any to get a doctor or hospital as it seems u can get one here and be from any where,Do u beleave when u pay road tax it is spent on the roads, maybe some off these so called mp should be put on the work programme and sign all there rights away give them 96 pound a week and se how long they last, not let them claim second homes being paid for by the tax payer. If u walked up to a policeman in the street and called him names would u be able to walk away free not that u should even think of doing it in the first place, maybe we should all get on a virgin train and not pay the right fare.I kind of thought everyone had the same rights in the uk but it seems not and its time it all stopped.
