NMW is the starting point of any job out there now, some jobs possibly deserve to be paid more but aren't. For me I have a family to provide for and NMW would be a struggle but less of a struggle than it is on JSA.

So by that alone you say I deserve NMW?

When did I say you deserve NMW, show me? I see you edited your comment now but I still never said you deserve it.

You questioned why I am allowed to sign on and tell me I should try harder to look for ANY WORK and apply for any job I can do when you know nothing about my circumstances then your try having a got at me for knowing nothing about you or your personal life.

You said it wouldn't cut it for you like it would for me?

I said EVERYONE has to apply for NMW jobs and this is a reason why I do not get shortlisted for a lot as they are JUNIOR jobs and basic compared to the 20 yrs experience I have got. You find it hard to believe I have not got a job as I am applying for so mcuh but you still do not get it.

You say you have worked hard to get where you are today but surely if you have many many years of experience you too would not get a job at NMW, would you?

Edited yes but that was SIX mins before you replied

Anyway you are going off topic of your post telling me I claim to apply for jobs and if I did Id be working

Yeah tell that to the 2.6 million out of work - you are one of them!

I get enough grief from agencies saying 'why are you not working' I do not need the same amount of !!!! from an unemployed person too

    thanks

NMW is not the starting point its the pay of a bad company. Even my old company don't pay NMW. They took on a junior with no experience and paid them £18k.

I said worked hard to get my qualifications, never said anything about many, many years of experience.

perhaps that is why your post was made redundant?
they were paying over the odds for junior staff?

my son is 21 and is working full time for our local council on £12,800 per annum - this is quite adequate for a young man with no financial responsibilities, and no "advanced" qualifications other than an NVQ in Business administration -

he has just been interviewed for a promotion to clerical level 2 which would give him a salary around £13,500 - £15,250 which again is enough until he progresses and becomes more useful to the employer

salaries of £18,00 for JUNIOR members of staff in this economic climate are un-realistic and un-sustainable in my opinion.

My husband has been unemployed for 13 months now and applies for every job that he is qualified for - a job at NMW simply won't work for us as we have a mortgage of £700 per month to pay - currently we are paying it out of my savings- but we can only last a few more months at this rate - then I really don't know what will happen to us - perhaps we will have to downsize - although how you downsize from a terraced 3 bed house with 4 adults living in is is beyond me.

the situation is dire and my husbands age is not helping

thankfully though - we now know he has 39 years NI contributions paid in full and as he doesn't get JSA due to a small occupational pension - he needn't keep signing on now- the nicest consequence of this whole situation is that he gladly told his Work programme provider last week that she won't be seeing him again !

I came on to share my experience with the WP not to be criticised by you!

The position am in, am on a Mandatory Work Programme cause am unemployed just like you.
  • ^ In your situation you could get your son to pay a significant amount towards the mortage if hes working and your husband isnt.
Your savings will only last for so long and it will be better option than your family having the house reposessed in a few months time.

No my post was made redundant as they lost business & a new accounts system was taken on to reduce the work load and this person was not taken on till last month to replace someone who was on maternity and not coming back. I have not been there since 2010 July.

They paid them this amount as they want them to stay in the job and not leave after 6 mths. The is the first 'junior' they have ever employed as all staff before were qualified.

They get no other benefits other than holiday.

Oh so if you do not have a lot of experience in the jobs you are going for thats the answer

I wish you all the best of luck on here and some more than others (you know who you are the ones who were ever nice)

I will not be back - said it before but now I really mean it.
