Oh yeah - course you get him something.

You could even get little plastic dogturds with Christmas hats on if you really want to go for something nasty.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Christmas-Turd-Great-Xmas-Present/dp/B002SPQEOG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1324454251&sr=8-5 - about £3.50, delivered, so you still stay under budget.

One of our departments had a secret santa last year, as someone bought them a bottle of wine (between a team of 12) so they decided to see who could get the 'worst' secret santa, and they would win the prize. £5 limit applied, and the results were actually better than some genuine presents I've seen.

I like the post about a charity donation in his name, but, you've all said you'd participate, so get your thinking cap on and get appropriate.........
Always on the hunt for a bargain.

Always grateful for any hints, tips or guidance as to where the best deals are:smileyhea
  • Buy him something he won't like. One annoying bloke in our office was always talking about how the music he listens to was 'pure class' and 'the best music ever made' whilst any other music was rubbish etc. All very childish and tedious so when I had to buy him a secret santa I got him 'best R&B hits of 2002' or something like that. When he unwrapped it he had a tantrum and shouted out what rubbish music this was. I made him look like a spoilt little child - result!

Well the bottom of the barrel really has been scraped this week! This seems very childish to me! It's quite simple really, don't take part if you're not prepared to play the game properly! Regardless of your feelings, he is who you picked!

Whatever you "overheard" is none of your business and you shouldn't get your wooden spoon out and start stirring things that have nothing to do with you! Why would you want to upset your colleague anyway?!

Find your Chritmas spirit, be kind and buy him something for a fiver. How he chooses to treat your colleague is up to him but it should have no bearing on your behaviour or decision!

    Merry Christmas! :xmastree:
Debt owed £4000, Saved (to pay back) £300, only £3,700 to go!!

My best money saving tip: Good manners cost NOTHING! So please be nice to each other! :happylove
  • I would buy "him" a gift for a family abroad through Oxfam or another charity :T helps others and he gets nothing :rotfl:

I vote for this answer too ! :D
  • It's the secret santa so he'll probably gift rubbish and receive rubbish like 99% of them across the country - mine included.

There aren't many good gifts for £5, certainly not that will please a random personality you hardly know.

I suppose the best guide is to get something that you would like - secret santa has been known to lead to bartering and exchanges in previous years....
  • I think you have two courses of action. Either take the following steps -

    1. Complain to HR
    2. Ostracise him
    3. Key his car
    4. Jump him after work and put in hospital.
    5. Start a hate campaign against him on Facebook.
    6. Cancel Christmas in protest.

    Or -

    1. Grow up.

You've agreed to take part, so I think you have to stick to the agreement, or it mucks it up for all the participants.

As to what you overheard - I'd just keep my head down and stay out of it if I were you.
If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)
  • yes - stick to the deal - buy the £5 pressie (dont stoop to his level) but give him something with a "message" behind it - ie: a very large wooden spoon - for the office stirrer! or a cheap mouse/mug mat with something printed on it; or some ridiculous santa hat or similar & insist he wears it all day.
  • a bog roll. with a note- "back at you, loser" or something like that..
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • No I don't think you should tell your friend as all that he said she said nonsense is very childish.

Also £5 is hardly going to buy a fabulous present is it?
