Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 19th Dec. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all
Off to work in a while, 2 more days then we break up.
BB I have PM'd you.
Beth, I hope you are ok.
Bramble I hope your face is getting better.

Thick frost here again, it will take a while to scrape the car. I managed to tidy up the study a bit & last night I made a peg bag, pics in the usual place. I still haven't mopped the kitchen floor, but then I still have a lot of baking to do, so is it worth it, lol.
Tea tonight will be cheese & ham omlette as I have loads of both in the fridge & a friend went to the local market yesterday & bought me 4 gammon joints for £15.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester.

  • Morning :)

So today I am 37 weeks, Baby Roo is now classed as 'Full Term' :j

Saturday my DH noticed commented I had some 'Pre-Labour' signs, such as exaustion and 'constantly complaining' and a few other minor signs....!

Yesterday we noticed my bump has 'dropped' and I can breath!

I was up at 2am yesterday with aches and pains and by 4am I had contractions every 6-7 minutes for 1 minute each (Yay!) which didn't change until 10am which is when I got an hours sleep. Afterwards they became irregular and sometimes come 2 minutes apart and although I am hurting more they are not regular... they are not 'active labour' contractions.

The Midwive(s) tell me I am in the 'latent phase' and my body (read: cervix) is getting ready for labour... this could take hours, days or weeks (the latter knowing my luck!!)

So I managed a decent nights sleep last night... but the second I woke up they all started again. I have a horrid back ache and my tummy hurts...

DS wants Roo here for Christmas... but knows he still has a wait on his hands. We are all thinking between Christmas and New Year (even though the due date is 9th Jan)!

So what are my plans today: NOTHING

Well, I am going to play scrabble with DS, and maybe supervise him making chocolate covered fudge for Christmas. But I am under strict instructions to rest, not drive and sit on towels (Oh the joy!)

I have no plans until Thursday (Midwife Appt), and as you should rest during the Latent Phase, I am going to do just that :)

Oh, and any idea why I would gain 4.5lbs this week???? I have gained 1lb since week 10 and all of a sudden I gained 4.5lbs!!! I am totally perplexed by this, because I have been eating less recently! Drinking more milk (3-4pints instead of 2-3pints a day!) I wonder if it's because the baby dropped and the weight has re-distributed?!?!?!

Not complaining though... I still have 15lbs to gain until my pre-pregnancy weight... so it's not like the 4.5lbs will hurt right now!

Hope everyone has a good day x

  • Morning Hester and all to follow

Bramble, sounds miserable, hope that they pain killers are taking effect and you are feeling better today.

FB, excellent news on the house. Its always such a relief when you know you have got somewhere to move to.

Sorry still need to read the thread properly.

All the teachers at my school are in a bit of a frenzy today, with the news that Kim Jong Il is dead. Everyone is speculating, some are freaking out and others are just completely oblivious. I am not too worried though, the boarder between North and South Korea is one of the most heavily guarded areas, so im not too worried.

Skiing this weekend was excellent, although it took a while to feel confident enough to actually go on a proper slope I managed it, and felt quite pleased with myself for getting down. I actually didnt fall down all weekend. I think it was the fear of getting colder than I already was that kept me upright no matter what :rotfl::rotfl:

OS today is getting everything clean, doing some washing and then heading to Tesco to get some food in, I need some milk and bread.

I cant believe we are already at the end of the year, its feeling very unfestive here so not feeling too miserable just yet about not being home with the family.

Have a great day everyone, sending hugs to all those who need them

Hester- hang on in there for 2 days - you can do it. xxx

JG - OOOHhh I'm excited for you - take it easy and rest up!!

Finding - didn't know he'd died - mind you DS1 has been on wii since I woke up and I come on here before I check the news!!

Morning all - haven't read yesterdays thread yet - but hugs to those in need.

Today will finish all the washing and hopefully walk the dogs before the forecasted rain. Might make the childrens gingerbread houses for them - apparently I'm a control freak - according to OH! Need to clean kitchen. Will get something out of the freezer for tonight - and will be doing a cola ham at some point - first time I've ever done one so wish me luck!
Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.

    Morning everyone,

It is so dark this morning, only 2 days till the shortest day and then the days start lengthening again.

Teenagers are still in bed as their school finished on friday, I have got to go in today and tomorrow and I am feeling really grumpy about it.

Hugs to JackieG, Dazi, Lou, Lamewolf and Beth and to anyone that i may have missed.

    Congratulations on the house FB.

JG, make sure that you get some rest.

    How is the lip Bramble?

Went to the carol service at church last night, it was magical with all the church lit by candles, really felt festive after that.

Tea tonight is left over curry for everyone else as I am off out for a friends birthday, if I can stay awake that is!

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)
  • Good morning everyone.
I'm so excited today - mainly because it's the first proper day of my hols from work and was so nice not to have to get me and the kids up at 6am to get ready for school.
But also, I have a friend that works in a cinema and there are a group of about 10 of us going to get a free and exclusive showing of 'It's A Wonderful Life' this morning, which is one of my all time favourite films. I'm not sure what my 7 year old dd will think of it, but I think it'll be a poor subsitution to Elf and Home Alone. ds is at nursery - I know he wouldn't sit through watching it.
Then I'm going to get the last of my cards and parcels posted so I can start feeling properly festive.
Followed by cleaning and housework that gets neglected when I'm working full time.
JG hope you're doing ok. I know I've already said, but my poor sister is 5 days past her due date, and I can see how fed up she is. She's been having the niggling pains and contractions for almost a fortnight so I can imagine how worn out you are having seen her.
Hope bramble is feeling better today as well.
    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all!

HH - which market was that from!
JG- Take it easy mama :)
Findin- i LOVE skiing! As OH is self employed, we never go as it's too much of a risk for him.

My lip is still v. swollen, but less than yesterday..still look like the elephant man! Not walking the dog this morning as don't feel ready to walk past all the commuters going to London looking like i do. If i leave work early I'll take him then to a more secluded area. Too dark to go there now as the place is not lit and not safe really, although i'm sure one look at my mug and any potential attacker would be scared out of his wits!

Stew is in the SC, need to do dishes from yesterday later, and want to get the throws for the sofa washed. Got a pile of clothes to put away, but the pain i am still in is quite unmotivating.

Hope everyone else is okay. 3.5 days till I break up for Christmas!

It does get a bit drawn out near the end... Wouldn't it be easier if our bodies knew it was due time and just released the baby? I hope your sister has her baby soon. Although she'll be due a sweep in two days... hopefully that'll help bring things on faster :D

    Morning :santa2:
In my calendar - a cracker :xmassmile Double size so very happy :D

Bramble  Hope your lip is feeling better this morning

The carol concert was fab fab fab - as I knew it would be :D They tagged another song onto the end of one of them, it sounded familiar but I couldn't work out what it was. After a few seconds I realised - it was the coke ad :T :rotfl: Father Christmas appeared at the end with presents for the kids, as we don't have young kids we took ourselves over the road to the pub :D

It's been a mad few days so I'm going to shut myself in the house today. I have a few bits and pieces to do so I'll just potter about. I love that word - potter :DToday, I will be pottering :D First though, I'm going to sort my face out - I collapsed into bed last night with a full face of make-up, it doesn't exactly look pretty this morning :rotfl:

    Morning everyone

Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x

Wet and cold here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock.

Had a lovely lunch out yesterday as a belated birthday meal for DS1, food was excellent and plentiful - didn't eat anything else for the rest of the day! Took both sets of parents with us and DH got the loan of a people carrier so only 1 person had to drive - they seemed to enjoy too.

Last few days at work for me before the holidays, hoping it shouldn't be too bad but today is the town xmas market - it's a really big event in the local calender and gets really rammed, glad I'm gonna be at work to be honest! Only working my normal days this week and the week between Xmas and New Year I only have to work half day on the Wednesday as Mon and Tues are bank hols but then it's my Saturday to work New Years Eve and do you think anyone wanted to work that one instead of me?!! Not too bothered as we've been away the last 4 years for 4 days between Xmas and New Year so can't really complain, and have Monday off that week as it's a Bank hol too.

Will be trying to book some holiday days when I go into work today, still have quite a bit to take and it makes things really tricky at the end of the holiday year with everyone trying to get days off - have already checked the holiday calender and the dates I would like I clear and the kids are back at school so hoping it should be ok.

Did a price guarantee check as had my receipt for my shop that I did on Friday and it's given me a money off voucher for #6.25 and then found another receipt on my desk, checked that one and it's given me a #5.00 off voucher both have use by dates of 14 Jan, so I'm really pleased.

Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x
