Competitions Discussion Thread Part 16

Once you are following quite a few people you'll start to see new comps popping up in your timeline (and you can check they've not been posted here, but honestly, lots will be missed because you need to be on at the right time to spot them & get them posted quickly enough). Or just search for new competitions - you can set the search to within a certain location - I usually choose within 500 miles of London - which will filter out all the American/Austrailian ones etc.Hmmmm, need new siggie :cool:0

The thread about twitter comps is closed, and there's not a dedicated thread for it just a mixed up bit of this one....so.
When is MSE going to get with the plot and dedicate a section to social media comps? They make up a very large chunk of all comps and are growing fast, they end quickly though...some twitter ones in hours, some FB ones last a day and this means people miss them. We wouldn't need an ending today or anything if there was a social media section, it would be easy to see the new stuff there before moving on to other normal stuff.
IF people don't use FB IMO they are missing a lot, but they would benefit from not seeing these comps...those who use FB a lot would obviouslt benefit, and it costs NOTHING. Why the problem getting up to date with this? Lack of will to move with the times ?
People will go elsewhere if MSE lags behind, and they already are doing that. Not good for anyone.
MSE is a Money Saving site and not a dedicated Competitions site.
The Competitions board is only one board among many and MSE has devised it's rules and systems to suit the majority of it's Boards and purposes and not to just satisfy us compers.
If the set up here does not suit some people they may well be better off joining a dedicated competitions site where they will be organised simply for the purpose of entering competitions of all types. I do belong to another competition site but generally prefer the more informal set up here.0 -

But within the comping forum there is quite a lot of opportunity to improve the set up to make it easier and more logical for people to post more Twitter/FB comps. For example, right now YahooMovies is running a quick comp (here if anyone wants it). I'm not going to post it (or other similar ones) because it'll probably be over in 30 minutes - I don't think it's sensible to clog up the main board with these short comps. The suggestion is to look at how Twitter/FB work and see if there's a better way to organise these comps in order to encourage more people to post them & make it easier for people to be able to spot them in a timely manner.

What other ways are there to find Twitter competitions?
Apart from following other users, you can just put #Competition or #comp into the search box and this will bring loads up, but some might be outside the UK.you can set the search to within a certain location - I usually choose within 500 miles of London - which will filter out all the American/Austrailian ones etc.
How do you do that please? I didn't know you could do that.0 -
How do you do that please? I didn't know you could do that.
If you do your search and then click on "refine results" towards the top right, it'll bring up the advanced search. Towards the bottom is "Places" - type in your place and it'll bring up "Within this distance".
It's not perfect because you'll sometimes get people in the UK who have RT'd American comps (presumably without checking their location first!), but it filters out the vast majority.Hmmmm, need new siggie :cool:0 -
I have a question about 'like and share' facebook comps.
I have been sharing only with a list of friends who enter comps (from this forum!) so that my other friends don't get them on their walls, but I've just read on a comping site that all your shares for comps should be public and if you only share to a list of friends the company won't see that you've shared and your entry won't even be considered!
Is this correct? No wonder I never win anything!!!:rotfl:0 -
hi, when i saw this in my mail box didn't know wether to mention on here or not but decided to after all :rotfl:
what does everyone think ??
if they are going to be giving out all the answers to the
weekly mags/puzzler.com mags/tab mags etc it seems a
waste of time us ops buying/posting these mags we might as well save our time/money as quoted on the blurb here
'It would cost you £37.85 a week to buy all the magazines
we give you answers for - and around 5 or 6 hours at least to do the puzzles. '
:eek::D & pay to join them ? :eek::rotfl:
...........................................Psst! Want to know a devious wayDear lucky reader,
you could soon see your name as a winner
of one of those hard-to-get cash prizes in
Take A Break, Chat and That's Life magazines?
Come and get your FREE
Access-All-Areas Guest Pass for the
relaunch of the fabulous prize-winning
MyComps website and I'll show you how
I'll also show you how you could soon be winning as many as two or even three great prizes in a single month!
Click here to get your free guest pass now!
Every year, our hundreds of existing members have
been sweeping up an unfair share of the millions of pounds
worth of prizes that are given away in the UK.
Some of our readers like Donna Cary who I got a letter from recently have been winning multiple prizes every month...
Just a note to thank you for all the lovely comps and to let you know that this month
I have won the following:- Tickets to Yes Prime Minister in the West End, cinema tickets, glass tankard, 2 cases of mixed wine and today a Tablet PC!
And I have just returned from a holiday in Thailand which I won earlier in the year!!"
But to be totally honest with you, that is just what we'd expect! MyComps members have always been a very lucky bunch.
But in recent months we've done a couple of things that have MASSIVELY increased their winnings even further.
Click here and discover the secret to winning through multiple entry
The first thing that's given our members a very unfair advantage inonline comping is the big listing we now give them of 'multiple entry' competitions that can be entered more than once - and sometimes as often as a hundred times a day! As reader Jane McIntyre told us,"When I saw the new multi entry section on the site, I started entering as many as I could, not really expecting much". And guess what? Her application has paid off already with her first 'multiple entry' win of a £50 Amazon voucher. And I'm getting letters from readers like this all the time!
If you've ever dreamed of winning a prize from Chat, Take a Break or That's Life magazine... Another whole new section we've added and which I personally think is AMAZING is the brand new puzzle section. Every Tuesday we'll be giving you not only ALL THE ANSWERS for over 80 new puzzle competitions from the main puzzle mags, like Take a Break, Chat and That's life... but also all the special details and addresses you need to be a winner! It would cost you £37.85 a week to buy all the magazines we give you answers for - and around 5 or 6 hours at least to do the puzzles. Is it cheating? Absolutely not! I can tell you that Julie Deacon was certainly delighted when she won £1000 from a puzzle competition in Chat magazine that she'd entered through MyComps. And that's not to mention the £500 VIP shopping Spree she'd also won - as well as the at least monthly prizes she tells me she's been winning since she joined us in June!
Quick: Grab some of these amazing free prizes before our other members get their hands on them! You can find out more about the MyComps incredible winning service at this website: Click here
But first let me tell you exactly what your special guest trial membership entitles you to: First you'll get a 28-Day pass that will allow you free guest access to the website and all the competitions and prizes
Your name will be entered every month for the monthly £250 prize draw open just to our members, Just check if your lucky number on the bottom of your weekly email matches that on the 'This weeks issue page' and you've won £250!
There are also further in-house prizes such as shopping vouchers given away every month that you can get your hands on.
PLUS: you'll actually EARN £50 for every winning story you take the time to write in and send us.
Once your free 28 days is over, you'll be charged the very reduced price of just £8.37 a month if you decide to continue with your subscription.
And remember: If you don't win more prizes than you could ever have imagined possible in your first 12 months, we'll refund ALL the money you've paid us. No questions asked.
So quickly, grab one of these places!! I hope to welcome you soon as one of our members and look forward to hearing about all the prizes you've won!
Best wishes
Sharon Goodwin

P.S. Don't forget to fill in your details so we can start your guest membership! Who knows, maybe you'll even be one of our first top cash prize or holiday winners for February!

There is a thread in IwonIwonIwon here:-
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3713425=
where we were discussing these sites that you pay to enter competitions for you. Is this one of thes? Or do they just supply the details of the comps for you to enter?0 -
Nothing new there really fire**fly, i used to be a mycomps member and they posted the weekly mag answers then, i take it with the £37 weekly they mean the puzzler mags etc as well
marg - mycomps when i was a member just listed the comps and you entered them, its not a we enter for you service as far as im aware
All the comps on that site are already on here, plus i trust 100% the answers for the weeklies, puzzler's etc from here only and in all the time i was a member, what did i win - zilch! :rotfl::rotfl:
lol at the £37 a week though, if they think thats a lot, they should see what i spend each month on mags :rotfl::rotfl::D0
