I'd find it quite handy to come in from work and find all the quick Twitter comps in one place, I miss loads atm
I subscribe to threads but I don't receive emails for them? I just click on my subscribed threads when I log into MSE and see which ones have been updated (including this discussion one, compers inn, puzzlers etc) as I also comp by thread start time so never see them again on the main board. xx
if you are subscribed to a thread you should receive instant emails,
check you've clicked on the drop down list for
'Instant notification by email' then
'add subscription'please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

I dont go into the discussion thread, and i would think most people dont, so although i will post this in there, i dont think many people apart from regulars in that thread will see it, which is why ive also posted in here. You said yourself its a small discussion, so hardly the wishes of the majority on here.
perhaps there should be a vote on main board or in here for it
a lot of old peeps are usually against anything 'different' or 'new' on here but there's loads of new members might think different,
especially the contributors who are posting the twitter compsplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -

Sorting by thread start time as I do means that the post would disappear in a matter of hours and would never resurface because there would be hundreds of newer threads. This has all been discussed before and the majority agreed to leave it as it is. Surely that can't just be overturned because someone suddenly thinks it would be a good idea.
but it's not just 'someone' who suddenly thinks it's a good idea,
there's been quite a few posts regarding having them on a single thread, it's easy enough to subscribe to a thread & you get instant emails as soon as a comp is posted,
we've all had to adapt/change our comping ways since twitter/f/b have been filling the boards so it's just another 'new' thing afaic, please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I'm not keen on the idea. If I checked it every day, I would probably forget to and where do you draw the line of when to check it? I may check it a 6pm everyday but then I'd miss any comps posted after 6pm which end before 6pm the next day.
If I subscribed then when people start chatting on it you end up getting pretty annoyed at all the emails coming through because someone has posted 'Good prize' or something. Also I get my emails to my phone so I'd be getting emails all day while I'm at work for Twitter comps that I don't really care about because they end before I'm home from work and able to enter then.
Also pretty soon, it would be a very long thread full of expired comps.
But, that being said some people may like the idea. So why not, post comps to the main board (as they should be) and post a link in the 'Twitter' thread for those who wish to subscribe to it or check it regulary.
That way no one misses out and no one is breaking the comp posting rules.
Simples!2009 Wins = £833
2010 Wins = £6,597
2011 Wins = £7,083
£2,012 in 2012 = £450/£2,012
20 in 2012 = 4/200 -

Simples!the idea was that 'peeps' didn't 'chat' on it (but that always happens on any thread :rotfl:) & they get 'bumped' & we get loads of emails with nothing to do with the comp on most subscribed threads
if the peeps who've put the comps on, when they go back to the thread, they can 'delete' thier old comp so then the thread wouldn't be full of old comps

i think that is a good compromise, so it would work in a similar way to the daily thread. if it was posted on the regular board too it wouldnt bump its way up the main board0 -
comping_cat wrote: »But the whole point of the main board is not to have bumped threads - only certain magazine comps are exempt from this. I really dont think a thread of loads of expired comps (because as you say, they expire after a couple of hours) really benefits the majority on the board.
There are a lot of people on here who do not use twitter, so this one continuously being bumped, along with other twitter comps being posted, will jam up the board.
I think there's a difference between threads which are bumped for the sake of bumping (which is what we're trying to prevent on the main board so people aren't seeing individual competitions which they have already entered continually bumped) and a thread being bumped because a new competition has been added to it.
I'd argue that if there's a lot of people who don't use Twitter that this would benefit them as more would be consolidated in one thread so fewer Twitter threads are jamming up the board. Also, I think it would be better to have expired quick ending Twitter comps in the one thread rather than having to work through them one by one on the main board, sitting there already expired.
It may well be that not enough people like the idea, but I know I miss most of these comps because I go through posts in order of posting & if there's been something closing at 3:00 on p.3 and it's 2:30 and I'm starting on p.10, I miss it.
Of course everyone comps in different ways so it won't suit everyone's preferences, but I'm happy to see what happens.Hmmmm, need new siggie :cool:0 -
OK, so how do we decide what is a flash comp, and one that isnt?
How do we get people to go back and delete their previous threads?
How do we make sure that people who do not wish to subscribe to the thread and get loads of emails get to see it?
How do we stop people bumping the thread with chat?
If we have 'post as normal, then add to this thread as well' how do we stop the then 'bumps' of someone not doing both, and someone posting to say they have either posted it, or added it to the thread (this is ok for normal posts, if you have it ticked you dont have to re enter the thread unless you want to see what else has been posted, with this one you would have to check)
What about facebook comps, itv comps, other magazine comps, radio comps etc - just where do we stop having one thread fits all threads?
How do we help the people who comp in ways that they wont see the bumped thread (and who do not want to subscribe)?
Im not against new ideas, i wouldnt be against this idea, as i had a similar idea at the last big debate, but it got an all round no from the majority and in a democracy, majority rules. Im not going to comment again, as last time there was a big debate it got really nasty, some posters actually left, others got very upset and i dont think this is that important to be upsetting people.0 -
we could start with this..
so what say if ALL of us who've 'bumped' this thread with non twitter comps only discussion, delete all our posts & leave the thread for the peeps who want to post the comps on it,
as it should have been,
surely then bonnie & the contributors will find out if it'll work for them
