princessmoneysaver, what's to stop them getting your Bank details and deducting more than £1. My main concern is you don't know who you are giving your bank details too. Secondly why would they want your details for just a £1!. Sounded a bit suspicious to me.
tan1a a few years ago something similar happened to me, I was only new to doing competitions on the internet and usually when they asked for my mobile number I didn't give it to them, but once I made the mistake of giving it. I was charged £2 a time weekly for a few weeks. I contacted my Mobile company and they said type in the number of the call and type STOP, if they continue you can report them. When I enter competitions now which ask for my Mobile number I just type in 11 1s, the entry goes through.

The entry may go through, but if the mobile number is compulsory your entry may not be valid if you are selected as the winner. You had a bad experience, but as long as you're careful with the tick boxes in future you should be fine.

  • They need your details for the £1 then if you wish to carry on they will take the next payment otherwise you just call them & cancel. I can understand what why you would be dubious but if you know you asked to get the first (free) issue then they called you to ask if you wanted more (the extra 2 issues) you'd know who they were because you contacted them first (for the free one). Does that make sense? Obviously if someone called asking for bank details but you know you hadn't contacted them first of course don't give them it but for these magazines it is genuine.

Have a look here (not sure how up to date it is though sorry) for different offers on mags https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1075149

Are these cookery courses for people who know how to cook already or can they teach complete beginners?

    Depends which comp/venue.
Some offer advanced teaching whilst some cater for beginners as well.

What do you make of this?

It's on the comp page for Love Your Hair but I haven't posted it. I would doubt that EVERY person gets a free makeover, but I can't tell whether it is a comp where someone wins a free makeover or if everyone just gets a free photograph after paying for a makeover. If some brave person wants to phone the number given and find out they are welcome.

I reckon that everyone is likely to get a free makeover and a free photo, but the catch will be that there is going to be a hard sell to get you to buy more very expensive photos. They will give you one photo free and that will be the least flattering one. Then they will try and get you to spend a fortune to buy lots of better ones.
