Vista upgrade

I loaded Vista Home Premium 3 weeks ago. It is a disaster.
Why has Microsoft moved just about everything around? The names of various functions have been altered willy-nilly. Until you trace the apprpriate commands it is not even possible to load software or transfer a file from one folder to another. You can do this only by compromising the much vaunted security functions. What use is security like this if the PC is virtually unuseable?

Despite checking the Microsoft's own Upgrade Compatibility test several times and getting the all clear I find that my expensive video edit cards and software are not compatible and there is no sign that they ever will be. My modem was not suitable neither was my card reader. The list is endless.
There is nothing resembling a manual to give even basic assistance - and mine is a 'full' pukka version.

Is this a ploy by Microsft to corner markets for themselves or lethargy by other software manufacturers?
To add insult to injury the PC regularly shuts down without warning or refuses to shut down on command.

But, the worst part of all is that I CANNOT get rid of it! I have tried all the normal methods to erase and/or format the hard drive but Vista is immovable.
Not only do I have a useless operating system for which I have paid but it has also hijacked my large hard drive.

Forget vista, install linux instead you will never look back, no need to worry about viruses or spyware. All the applications you could ever need for free and all legal and free. I recommend openSuse or ubuntu, PM me if you want any help

I got my free vista upgrade [£12.90 P&P] for this laptop yesterday from modus. I have installed in another partition so I can go back to XP when I want, which is going to be sometime soon as vista just needs more ram. Uhmm do I really need to buy more ram for vista just because it looks better than XP? NO.
Right now i cant see what it does more than XP [other than fancy stuff, which its OK if you have loads of money]. Definitely not MSE approved though

Has anyone got their upgrade from moduslink yet? I applied for the Vista business upgrade back in december but it still has not been despatched. It says the status is COA confirmed!

  • I'm getting dead annoyed with moduslink I still haven't got my free upgrade. I got an email on 24th April to say they had received payment and would ship it out but couldn't say when that would be.
They said they would email me once it had been shipped but I still haven't heard anything.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
