Vista upgrade

That is just the point I was expecting to have to upgrade my Windows XP Version to Vista with the disk, but no. I stuck in a blank hard drive and booted from the supplied Acer DVD, it loaded up okay but with the upgrade option greyed out but allowed a full custom install from scratch, to include formatting the drive to NTFS.
Which surprised me TBH I thought it would be a straight upgrade and as the DVD was badged Acer may even check for an Acer PC but no. So well impressed a full copy of Vista 32 Home Premium.
Ooh, now that's interesting, I just presumed it was an upgrade disk too. Might prove useful, thanks! :T0 -

Just put Vista on pc again 3rd atempt over the last 9 months, including beta. Well I hate to say it despite having a fairly new PC dual core 2, gigabyte 965p ds4 board, I aint impressed. I cant get widescreen on my monitor tried 4-5 hours now looking for a solution I am using Viewsonic latest vista drivers and Nvidia Vista beta driver. So much for 7.1 surround sound again using latest drivers can only get stereo. God who are MS trying to kid I never had so much agro from a OS even XP beta was much less agro.
Glad I got dual boot at least XP is stable and everything works0 -
Hi I bought a new PC from comet. end of Dec. I was told there was a free vista upgrade. I sent for it on 1st Feb, I received an e-mail on 21 st March from moduslink.com to inform me it has been despatched, and to e-mail them if it hadn' arrived in three weeks.
Well it hasn't arrived! they've taken the £15 shipping and handling charge. I''ve e-mailed them to twice now and they dont reply.
My friend received hers. We ordered on the same day, But she said the discs came just in an envelope unboxed, and just posted through the door. So I dont know where to go from here any ideas?
PS an article in computer active says the shipping charge can be challenged under the Unfair Claims in Consumer Contract Regulations.0 -

Any PC over a certain price (can't remember what that was sorry) bought from Oct (26th?) to March 15th from PC World came with the upgrade. It didn't get automatically sent out, you had to contact the company named on the leaftet/voucher that came in the box with the computer (Moduslink).
You need to register your details with them on the website, paying the postage charge, and then post or email your receipt. Then they'll send it out. Have you got this leaflet? If you have then go via the company on it, if not then I would def contact PC World again if your PC was covered by the criteria. Good luck with it! :beer:0 -
My son had no problem getting free (£16) VISTA upgrade disk from PC World.
I emailed receipt to them, had confirmation email and then the charge appeared on my statement. One week later it arrived.
He hasn't put it on yet though as he is waiting to see what faults there are, but as he said it is better to have it now than have to pay full price for it.

I got mine yesterday from Acer after following their instructions to the letter then waiting around 6 weeks. It was despatched from Hungary. Had to pay around £12 to cover handling.
After hearing so many horror stories about upgrading though, I'm thinking of waiting until things settle down a bit and there's more support for the OS.
My work PC is running Windows XP x64 Pro and it was a nightmare to find drivers etc for, and frankly I could do without that headache on the laptop.0
