Vista upgrade

It is indeed true that not all software that works on XP will be compatible with Vista- but most manufacturers will offer updates as time goes on.
It is not true that your router will be incompatible with Vista- these are completely separate entities. However it's possible that your network card won't be compatible. Personally, I found Vista was *more* compatible with my hardware- I didn't have to install any drivers for my wireless network card- just plugged it in and it worked.
One option for you might be to install vista on a different partition to XP- then you will be given the option of whether to load Vista or XP when you switch you computer on. This way you can try vista, see what works, and if all's well you can ditch XP.
For information on setting up XP and Vista on one machine (known as dual booting) check out this link.0 -
Ps- just because Vista isn't compatible with all software and hardware doesn't really reflect badly on it- when XP came out, it wasn't compatible with windows 98.. Just the way these things work unfortunately- it doesn't really pay to adopt a new operating system until at least 4-6 months after it's released..0

Just wondering if anyone has received their upgrade disc yet? I placed my order on the 24/12/06 and apart from one confirmation email I haven't heard anything back.0

Hi, I've got my upgrade disc through. Took about 9 weeks from original order to landing through letter box. I did contact them after a few weeks asking when it would be likely to arrive and they said they hadn't received my receipt so I emailed it a few more times for good measure! Got it through a couple of weeks after this. So if you've not got yours yet I would double check they've got your receipt otherwise they'll send you nothing and won't bother telling you!
Not put it on my computer yet though as a quick read through here seems to suggest waiting a few months for any problems to get ironed out.
Has anyone put it on and had no probs?

You put it on yet, Steve? Is it all working okay if you have?0

I installed it on my Fujitsu Desktop after swapping out the original disk, just to have a see and play as I've been having a few issues with S/W compatibility with my 64 Bit Ultimate Edition. I installed it direct after booting from the CD, installed a treat with no problems even though it wasn't the Acer Laptop it was expecting.Cheers

That is just the point I was expecting to have to upgrade my Windows XP Version to Vista with the disk, but no. I stuck in a blank hard drive and booted from the supplied Acer DVD, it loaded up okay but with the upgrade option greyed out but allowed a full custom install from scratch, to include formatting the drive to NTFS.
Which surprised me TBH I thought it would be a straight upgrade and as the DVD was badged Acer may even check for an Acer PC but no. So well impressed a full copy of Vista 32 Home Premium.Cheers
