My local Co-op seems to have more reduced fresh meat than other supermarkets. When they reduce goods, they REALLY reduce them, unlike some other stores where they take a little off a nearly out of date product.

Their ordinary goods are overpriced IMO though.

  • Lucky you - ours only takes pennies off the reduced meat - maybe depends which co op .

I live opposite a CO-OP and they do some good deals and reductions are great. I dont find them hugely more expensive anyway

Maybe we can compare prices and see if it depends on the store, mine is definitely more expensive than waitrose, it could be because there is no real competition nearby.
Next time I go I will write down prices so that we can compare :)
  • I read somewhere that the reason they reduce right down is because they are committed to reducing the amount of food that is sent to waste. However, they are also going to increase the amount they send to fareshare http://www.co-operative.coop/corporate/ethicsinaction/climatechange/waste/ so maybe that accounts for any changes.

my nearest co-op is a hit or miss.they used to reduce everything down to a 5 pence. but recently it has changed. i ve never seen anything down to 5 pence.saying that my nearest is 20 miles away as any other shop. so i pop there only when i do my Big shopping. was there yesterday and got:
    tropicana 3X 0,503
truly irresistible fresh orange 2X 0,50£
    Warburton 1X0.30£
    cucumber 2X 0,25£
    chicken thights 500g 2X 0,85£
    6 rolls 1X 0,30£
    chocolate !clair 1X 0,25£
    bananas fairtrade 3X 0,35£
    ferta frankfurters 3X 0.35£
    cakes 1X 0,25£
so it was good but not 5 pence :rotfl:

  • I have just been there today and got to say its very expensive. I kept picking things up and putting them down as Lidl is more than 1/2 price cheaper. I only went because I had some savings stamps to spend. I did get a good deal on quality streets, biscuits, after dinner mints, cheese and got a turkey crown. The cheddar cheese was good value at BOGOF £4.

Don't think I'll bother next year though, its just too expensive.

  • me either! getting a cheap basic turkey from Mr T this year. Bit disappointed with the Mirror coupons but did get
    1£ off fairy dishwasher tabs x 2
    and
    the fresh fruit discount
    so far anyway.

How is everyone spending their membership profit share coupons? Any way to maximise the savings?

My local co-op is fabulous for orange stickers and often reduces the meat by half for speedy sale, even if it was on offer in the first place. So I got 1/4 price salmon steaks recently when they were on offer and best before the following day. They have often done the reductions mid-morning too. I have to admit I used to find them pricey on many things but they do have some good offers, so are worth watching. When in there this week I bought three things that were in my Sainsbury offer for the following day because I spotted they were cheaper (including a box of jelly babies rrp £4 on offer at £2 instead of £3 and an offer for £5 off a £25 i-tunes card). Each time I've shopped there recently they have given me a £3 off £30 spend voucher for the following week.

Tesco upset me earlier in the year so I've boycotted them for weekly and online shopping since. My local Co-op is easier to park and doesn't take nearly as long to walk around as the bigger supermarkets. If I were able to drive or carry more on the bus I'd probably visit my local coop more often.
And the ethical aspect of co-op is a big selling point for me.
