Liverpool as a tourist

I'm looking for some insider knowledge from a Liverpudlian on what I should do on my two day trip to Liverpool in a couple of weeks.

Quality places to eat, cheap parking and good places to visit.

Any help gratefully received and I always hit the thank you button!

Don't buy a ticket for the ferry. Get a "saveaway" ticket instead. It'll get you on buses/trains and the ferry and save a fair bit. You may also be able to get to Chester on it but you'd have to check that.

The Anfield stadium tour is a bit of a rip off unless you are a die hard fan.

Hope that helps in a small way!!

You have the brand new 'Museum of Liverpool' at the waterside which is well worth a visit.

I second eezer's tip about the saveaway tickets too - the Merseyrail train services are very good, so consider parking a bit further outside the centre and getting the train in - that's what we do now when we visit, as we've found parking in the centre difficult to find and very expensive.

hope your not a drinker as every boozer i tried to get into 4 weeks ago was heaving
cheap good food? go to the chinatown
lots do do on the front for free ,it was too cold for me going on the ferry, probably a summer pastime?
some nice architecture up the side streets that hasnt been molly coddled and brought up to date with lots of slap
just have a good aimless walk round im sure you will enjoy it the people certainly seemed more friendly than my last visit in the 70's
  • There isn't any cheap parking in Liverpool! However the cheapest parking in the town centre is behind the World Museum near the Birkenhead Tunnel, William Brown Street; but it is pre-paid so you have to decide how long you need to park. The parking isn't on William Brown Street; the museum is! This is also where the Walker Art Gallery is; both buildings are well worth a visit. This is about 10 mins walk from Liverpool One, if you want to visit that, but is only 5 mins from Church Street which is the main shopping area. Parking at this time of year isn't easy as the many carparks fill up very quickly.
I second the Chinese food idea. There is also a couple of "All-you-can-eat" chinese resteraunts; one on Lime street, opposite Lime Street station and next to Argos.
The new Musuem of Liverpool is at the Pier Head, next to the Albert Dock, near the Liver Building.
Again the Saveaway tickets are very good value as you can use them on buses, Merseyrail and the Ferries, and yes, they will take you as far as Chester, Southport, Saint Helens (for The World of Glass Museum; check ahead if they are doing any glass demonstrations.) and if you are using Mersey rail it has free parking for customers at certain stations.
Hope that helps. If you mention your interests, then someone may be able to give you other ideas.
  • How much is the parking behind the World Museum? because if you go past Albert Dock to Kings Dock (about quarter of a mile) there's a £2.50 a day car park on the left just before the lights.

Stay and park outside the city centre and get a train in . I am from wirral so park at different stations(free) there and get the train (£3.05 return)AFAIK the savaway gets you to hooton not chester (used to be). Eating all over Liverpool has its good and bad cheap and expensive. We ate recently in The Munro pub up Duke street (about 5 minutes from Liverpool one / Great food decent prices (just past the green room)

How about an idea of your age group and interests and maybe people could give suitable advice. Are you booked in a city centre hotel or somewhere on the outskirts?

I've never been but the Williamson Tunnels get good reviews.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.
