Do you think they will stick to agreements during the Olympics? Not a chance Bob Crow and the union chums don't care one jott about Joe public. They are scum.I think that if the tube drivers threaten a strike around the Olympics (which they will) they will either (a) get what they ask for or (b) we will find Bob Crow floating in the Thames after suffering an "accident".I support Bob Crow and his union members. I really do. Everytime they make one more ridiculous claim or demand, everytime they try to hold London to ransom, it's just another nail in their coffin and eventual demise. Each time they raise their shrill entitlement voices, the normal member of public becomes more and more against them. It's wonderful to watch them in action.
Just to be clear. London Tube Drivers do not belong to the Rail and Maritime Transport Union of which Bob Crow is general secretary.
The Tube Drivers belong to ASLEF, and a certain Mick Whelan is their general secretary.
I realise in the world of knee jerk politics such distinctions are irrelevant, but I would urge you to direct your bile in the right direction

I did have a good laugh when I read about the tube drivers going on strike again and am so thankful I left London a few years ago.
No standards at all. Tube drivers are their own worse enemies and they will only hold the country to ransom so many times.
It costs about £100m a year to fund the tube drivers, it cannot take too many years payback to replace them all with an automated system.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
Looks like the bus drivers are taking their cue from the tube drivers and demanding extra pay (£500) during the Olympics.

some tube drivers belong to ASLEF and some to the RMT but it's right that this strike is an ASLEF one and nothing to do with bob crow.0 -

If nothing else it reinforces the stupidity and inappropriateness of trying to host the damn games here at all.
What a stupendous hostage to fortune! What an international racket! What a colossal waste of money!0 -
I'd build a long term solution by using a mock up which they have already and even go so far as to build a mini system to practice on. When we had a few thousand trained, I'd fire every one who striked or sneezed the wrong way. I'd ban overtime to force their wages down and the new people would start on fairer wages with no strike agreements.
And I'd hang Bob "Lenin" Crow.0 -
I would have thought that driving a bus was more difficult, more stressful and much more involved than driving a tube. Why the hell is a tube driver "worth" nearly twice as much as a bus driver?0

My missus works in the care sector looking after very vulnerable people. Standard rates for Christmas day, boxing day, new years day etc. Most of the staff are on less than £16kpa. Maybe she should go on strike and leave people to starve.
Maybe if the people who worked in the care sector unionised and were all prepared to go on strike their pay and conditions would be better.
You have answered your own question really. No union, not prepared to strike equals very poor pay and terms of employment for most workers. Don't wish it on others who are prepared to be in union and fight for better pay and conditions. Your missus should join a union if she hasn't already done so.0
