In which case it is normally a day off for the rest of the rail network and a bank holiday to boot.
If YOU were forced to work (ostensibly it's a day off remember) on Boxing day I take it you'd go in for normal pay would you?
When I last worked New years day I got 3 x pay and a day off in lieu too, none of my staff would work for normal pay and they'd think me nuts for asking them to.Unless specifically stated all posts by me are my own considered opinion.

They already get triple pay but the want the day off too, come on everyone knows they are taking the pi$$
Do you think they will stick to agreements during the Olympics? Not a chance Bob Crow and the union chums don't care one jott about Joe public. They are scum.0 -
I don't see why we need a law that says you have to keep overpaying people.
There isn't a law to say what you have to pay people, aside from the minimum wage of course. And there's no law against sacking anyone either, as long as you can demonstrate that the employee isn't performing to the standards required of the job and that you've given them suitable notice and support to improve their performance.
What you obviously can't do under law is just sack someone or reduce their pay instantly on a whim. Which is a brilliant thing.0 -

Nice idea, but it's against the law.
You'd think it would be but it's what BritishAirways were or still are trying to do in a roundabout way - hire lots of new air cabin staff on lesser pay then when there are more people on the lower pay scale than the others, management try to force the original crew members to sign a contract for lower pay and conditions or they have the option to take redundancy or leave.
Anyway, I agree with the OP that tube drivers are paid a kings ransom for what they do, it's not like they're face to face with their passengers unlike the london bus drivers.0 -

My missus works in the care sector looking after very vulnerable people. Standard rates for Christmas day, boxing day, new years day etc. Most of the staff are on less than £16kpa. Maybe she should go on strike and leave people to starve.0 -
London Tube drivers are the perfect example of an effective union.0

perhaps they should join a union then.
I've seen many care homes, where often the staff are fantastic but the owners couldn't give a toss about either the staff or the people being looked after.US housing: it's not a bubble - Moneyweek Dec 12, 20050
