I will get 2x pay for working a bank holiday. I get 2x pay for any overtime over my full time hours for another 16 days and then after 01/01/2012 it is just 1.5 as I had to sign new terms and conditions this year- I work in the private sector.0 -
If YOU were forced to work
Presumably, these people signed a contract which stated that they would be available to work these hours, and I would assume that it also stated what pay they could expect to receive for it.
If they then refuse to work, then surely they are in breach of their employment contract.
As for being "forced" to work, that's simply not true. They can resign any time they like......Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -
I think that if the tube drivers threaten a strike around the Olympics (which they will) they will either (a) get what they ask for or (b) we will find Bob Crow floating in the Thames after suffering an "accident".0

This dates back to 1992 when the unions signed up to an agreement whereby the drivers got increased pay and more holidays in exchange for agreeing to work on a certain number of bank holidays. So extra remuneration for working inconvenient days.
It seems the unions don't want to honour that agreement. That's fine, presumably they won't be wanting that extra pay and those extra holidays anymore.0 -

You are lucky, then. I've never received additional pay for working during bank holidays – it is expected of you to work for free (because you love the job!) in my industry.0 -
The main point here is that it is in their contract to work Boxing Day. Similar to the contract that doctors have. If we are rotered to work any bank holiday, we can't refuse and work for no extra money. We simply get a day in lieu. Seriously $h1t but that is the contract we signed.
These jokers are essentially trying to change the contract they all signed. They are an absolute disgrace.
It's bad enough in isolation, but on the back of their ridiculous payrise it's unforgiveable.0 -
In which case it is normally a day off for the rest of the rail network and a bank holiday to boot.
If YOU were forced to work (ostensibly it's a day off remember) on Boxing day I take it you'd go in for normal pay would you?
When I last worked New years day I got 3 x pay and a day off in lieu too, none of my staff would work for normal pay and they'd think me nuts for asking them to.
Last time I worked Christmas day (which also happened to be my eldest son's first Christmas), I got paid my normal hourly rate and no days off in lieu.
They had though, promised it would be double rate but they reneged on it...I made sure any similar promises from other employers were confirmed in writing rather than being a verbal promise after that.We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Isn't the additional pay doctors get for working bank holidays included in the general banding payment attached to a certain rota? Doctors in training I mean.0
