We don't have an Asda, Aldi or Costco here. I use Morrison's own liquid or the Co op version, either work pretty well, as does the Co op's concentrated fabric softener. When I can get it, I like the Aquitabs Simple tablets, as they're more eco friendly, but they are expensive. However, as someone said earlier, I read in the Victorian Farm book (from the tv series), if we use a washing machine, we don't need to use loads of washing powder/liquid unless the washing is greasy. The washing products will remove grease, but it's the moving around of the washing in the machine that pounds out the dirt - like using the wash boards of old!
  • I've been making my own laundry detergent for a while aka "Laundry Gloop". I found the recipe on the Old-Style board and made ten litres of the stuff (that's 100 washes) for less than two quid. The only difference is that it's not highly scented but that suits me. I always wash in cold water and haven't noticed any particular difference in cleaning-power between gloop and any other detergent.

I tried the gloop but found it often didnt melt at low temps, and found myseklf walking around with blobs of gloop on the clothes and someone thought it was bird poo :o
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • just seen a brand i havent seen before in tesco. DAISY. REALLY CHEAP . gonna give it a go and see what its like next time i buy washing powder, which will be a while cos all stocked up with at the mo. i only buy when its on offer and then only when ive price checked every one at ; https://www.mysupermarket.com , comparing all the supermarkets! not prepared to give one more shiny penny away if i can get it cheaper!!!
  • I saw a tv show where they tested a range of supermarket's own brand washing powders/liquid/tabs and they found Aldi's powders to be the best. I can't remember if they were cheapest but knowing Aldi's prices they probably were. They were certainly best value for money.

The show also said powders are all round better for washing performance wise than liquids, tabs etc.

i use asda's sensitive.. its fab.. im really allergic to washing powder (even the fairy, baby one) ...this one is so kind to my skin..
  • I use asdas own brand non bio stuff, to be honest, dont notice difference between that and branded stuff, however if the persil non bio is on offfer and works out about same price as buying asdas own, i will choose persil non bio.
Prefer asdas liquid non bio stuff rather than powder.

Never heard of this one, am intrigued. Is it an eco one?, i use soda crystals in hubbies whites as he is in the meat industry, so you can imagine.

How big is a box pls? I know Asda is against animal testing and it does say on their body products not sure about the laundry stuff, that sways me a bit.

The Aldi liquid is 2.50 for 28 washes which is not bad and says you can do 30 degree washes fine. Wonder how many washes i do a month?

Will keep track to see how cheap i can do this per month. I do use a branded (on offer) softener though on clothes and vinegar on bedding and towels.

I am pretty sure it is an eco one...Its a 10 wash box (I think)
  • i just stock up when brands are on offer. As a household we cant use bold or comfort.
Morrisons usually always have something on offer. We currently have 2 bottles of persil liquid bought for 1/2 price at 3.20 each for 28 washes. I get more out of it than that though
  • We use own brand non-bio liquid from asda, sainsburys or tesco wherever I am shopping although I have a stash of the huge non-bio persil bottles 54 washes from when they were £5 in asda. I think all are good and smell fine, I don't like really smelly washing detergents anyway (when I was pregnant the smell of clean washing made me want to puke and strong washing detergents and fabric conditioners still remind me of this!!)
