I have started using ASDA liquitabs as can't afford branded any more.
Do the job, haven't made me itchy, clothes look and smell nice enough :).

Same for me with Morrison stuff, no problems at all.

It might make the biggies think about their prices if we all did it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I've used Tesco own big box powder (colours and bio) and also their powder tablets again both colours and bio and have found them great.

I live in a soft water area so no probs with the tablets dissolving. I must admit though, for all my whites washing I have gone back to Ariel tablets (powder) as nothing gets whites as white in my opinion :D
I get the Ariel tablets from Home Bargains £4.99 for 28 washes (56) tablets. I recently bought a large box of Ariel liquitabs 36 pack from Tesco for £6. I love the smell of the liquitabs but prefer powder tablets as they contain bleach to keep my whites pristine !!!!

I can highly recommend Costco Kirkland powder. I bought a large tub in October 2010 (yes you read that right)
There's still a quarter of the tub left :)

Ok so its just me but I do about 4 loads a week and you only need to use a tiny bit.

So by my reckoning - at £16 (ish) per tub that works out at pretty cheap :)
  • I have tried Morrisons Value - £1.68 for 30 washes and Tesco Value - was £1.68 for 30 washes but currently up to £2.64 for 30 washes.

I prefer the Tesco Value one as it has a nicer smell but to be honest both powders washed perfectly well and I am currently back to using Morrisons, out of principle after the Tesco price hike

I use Lidl Formil colour liquid for coloured clothes as I think the cheaper powders bleach dark fabrics. It is priced around £3.50 for a large bottle. I also always use less than the recommended dose unless the clothes are really dirty, like my boys muddy school trousers etc.

Both Tesco Value & Morrisons Value fabric softener are also good too at only £0.45 for 1L.

I wasn't fully impressed with the Formil, but it was OK'ish.
You can actually buy this now and again when Lidl have it on their "half-price weekends" - stock up time if you like it. It's never been on half-price for a while, so maybe soon??

I sometimes buy Sainsbury's own, but have loads at the moment of Unilever stuff thanks to the coupon thread. Should have enough for 6-9 months, but still on the look-out for bargains - sometimes damaged boxes can offer great value.

I use Daisy liquid (think it's a brand belonging to Tesco). I think it's £2.99 for 28 washes - but that's off the top of my head. Works just fine. Can't believe how much some brands charge!

  • I use the Aldi non bio tablets, when I can get hold of them, they disappear very quickly! And I only use one tablet per wash and am very happy with them.
You never know how strong you are until you have no other option.
  • If you like things like Ariel Excel Gel, then I found that ASDA's Gels are perfect! And like the Ariel you can use a half dose without an issue, I use their 2 in 1 and their Non-Biological (for baby clothes) and found them to be really good. At £3 a pot (28) washes it's a bargin (I get 50 washes from it... so 2 months!)

Thanks for all the replies, i'm going to try the aldi stuff this time and see how it goes, it was approved by good housekeeping so we will see. But now have a list of others from you lot to try if i don't like it.

Hopefully i'm a brandless washing packet convert :) I buy loads of own brand food stuff but laundry wasn't sure about.
