It doesn't sound like you want to go, it's very disorganised, the leader and the person who has organised the collection for them both sound quite rude so no I definately wouldn't bother. You say you're worried about Secret Santa but it's only for £5 and am sure if someone has bought you something (and that's assuming they have had more luck than you with the booking etc) they will probably be able to use as a stocking filler elsewhere.

Leader doesnt often answer her calls / answerphone messages, or txts, I dont have a landline number or address for her and she in the next county so miles away now anyway.

I'm really not bothered about the meal its the Secret Santa part that is the factor for me. I know how tight money is at the moment for a lot of people and if the person I have bought for didnt turn up I would be annoyed for wasting £5. Same as I would be feeling a bit left out if I didnt get a gift.

    Same with the £3 reimbursment.

Sorry the post is confusing, spose I just needed to share and get it out my system, was a bit rambly I agree!

If she is in at night maybe you could plan the call so it coincides around dinner time so if anyone else heard it they would tell her to answer it?

Did you not say that you had not bought the secret santa yet so far you are not out of pocket but the other person could be or maybe like you is not going? Do you know they actually are? Do you know the person you have got? Maybe not if it is secret santa?

Yes I know the person I have got the Secret Santa gift for but not to drop it round at a later date. Other than the person who dumped the thank you gift problem on me I dont live close enough to anyone ele who maybe attending. I could drop the £3 and Secret Santa pressie over to them and ask them to take it for me and they can just have whatever gift was due to me themselves for the trouble, save me going to collect it.

Saying that your right I dont even know if they going to meal, however I do know it was agreed Secret Santa would be distributed at meal gathering.

Anything for a free 3 course meal for him! Plus the opportunity to meet those I have acquainted with ;)

Honestly, by this stage I would text the leader and say 'I have tried numerous times to book in for the meal, but am getting no-where with the restaurant, so its with regret that I have to let you know I will no longer be attending. Please pass my apologies to the group' and leave it at that. If your a single sex group your gift could be given to the person you were supposed to buy for.

  • I probably wouldn't bother going. I'd either try to get the secret santa present I had bought passed on, or just keep it myself and hope the person buying for me would do the same.

Sounds like a complete lack of organisation on the part of the restaurant and the group leader.

I organised the Christmas meal at work for my team of 20, I took charge of changing any bookings, asked people to pick their meals before and took the list of meals round along with deposits the week before and on the day collected the rest of the money for the meal.

I think if you're going organise something then you do it all or don't so it at all.
