I sent a complaint via there e-mail system because one of the products i had in my basket increased by 10 pounds, I have been trying to buy this item for 4 days and there system kept crashing.
They responded almost straightaway which is great as it says up to 3 days but they claim the item hasn't changed price since October! How can they not know their own prices? It's been flashing up constantly at £60 all over their website for almost 2 weeks. Suddenly it's £70 overnight, surely they must know they only changed it a matter of hours ago. I'm just amazed i'm hoping they'll get back to me and say they made a mistake.

Dear Sir
Thank you for contacting Maplin Electronics.
I am sorry that you are having issues with our web site. I can see that this item is priced at £69.99. The only time we have had the item at a cheaper price was in October. If you still wish to purchase this then you may do by calling us on 0844 557 6000. However we would only be able to offer this item at the stated price of £69.99.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
If there is anything else we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

It's that, i made a post about it a while ago i've been stalking it for weeks so trust me i'd know if the price went up.
Also on amazon a company called maplin_webdeals was selling it for the same price and that has also inexplicably increased by the same amount over night...
Someone obviously changed the prices last night so it boggles my mind their own staff don't know. Just got an update they are still denying it and they want a screen shot!
Who is the wo/man at the top i think its only fair they know their website and customer service staff keep crashing. This is madness for such a well known reputely specialist company.

do you particularly want this hard drive, or just a 1TB drive? I'm sure you can get a decent one for £55 or less elsewhere...Friendly greeting!0

You may be being a little hard on the product knowledge of Maplin staff. They are selling thousands, perhaps tens of thousands, of items. Could you keep the prices of that number of things in your head?0

That would be great, this is the only one I found even close to £60 but I'm sure i just don't know where to look...
Any 1tb drive at that price will do, preferably branded or known to be reliable (as far as hard drives can be anyway...). Please no ebay!
Just want a xmas present for my sister. Cheers.

No of course not... I would keep them in an efficient and updated computer system that can tell me exactly what's going on. P:
Also this product is one of a few on their massive special offers banner that is flashing day in day out on their homepage. So their customers know more then they do about their special offers, it's a little bit embarrassing no?
Honestly i would just prefer to forget it and get a 1tb hard drive else where at a similar price.0 -
You are ABSOLUTELY right about the price having been £59.99, eskimo26!!!
I reserved this online on Sunday night for my friend on Sunday night, and collected it yesterday morning and it WAS £59.99!!! So I agree with you that they don't seem to know what's going on!!!
It can't be a matter of location, as I obviouslylooked and booked from the same site as you did!!
By the way, she's absolutely thrilled with it!
Sorry you've had this disappointment....maybe emal them again and tell them a friend of yours bought one (in a different part of the country) only yesterday. I could borrow the till receipt and PM you a copy, if they (Maplin's) rubbish you off again, as proof!!!!

At the end of the day, what the basket price comes to is what you pay. HDD prices are going up and down greatly at the moment. Even if you do show proof, still not going to get the HDD at 59.99.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0

If you point them to this copy which was cached by Google, and clearly has a price of £59.99, and "on promotion until 24/12/2011" I wonder what they will say?

They might be willing to honour the lower price, although in a strictly legal sense, they aren't obliged to - any retailer can change the price of an item at any time they choose.0 -

That would be great I honestly thought i was going mad. I know it seems over the top but what they don't realize when they casually ask for a screen shot is that they are basically calling you a liar, ordinarily it would be water of a ducks back but having been unable to buy this item 4 days in a row because of their website it gets frustrating to be told that sorry your seeing things we recommend a trip to the dr! :rotfl:
Alternatively i'd be just as happy with a comparable one at the same price. If you point them to this copy which was cached by Google, and clearly has a price of £59.99, and "on promotion until 24/12/2011" I wonder what they will say?

Oh my i'll see what they say!0 -
Yes on promotion, but price can change at any time, hence the wording E&OEMansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0
