How many times do you chase your solicitor?

Oh these posts all sound very familiar with me! It is amazing that we have to chase a professional to make sure they are doing their job - and we are paying them too.
The problem is that they are the only one in the process that does not have a stake in reaching exchange quickly. Buyers, sellers, agents, banks all benefit from quick exchanges but our solicitor doesn't - they get paid regardless of how long it takes.
Perhaps negotiating penalty payments is the way forward, such as knocking £50 off their fees each week. Or even take them out of the process altogether!
Everyone dealing with solicitors at the moment has my sympathy.0 -
Never had a problem, but to be fair my friend is my conveyancer (he is a qualified solicitor). Seem to have more of a problem with Estate Agents.
OP I would call your solicitor and tell them to communicate more effectively because you will be homeless soon if their finger is not pulled out of their derrier.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0 -

I had this client call today and they ring constantly asking for the same up date. When I tell them I am waiting for their Lender to give consent and it will take three days I don't expect the client to ring 3 times a day everyday. Anyway whilst they were on the phone and I explained for the 3rd time that day why we we hadn't had an answer, I typed an attendance note confirming the conversation (which I type for every phone call made/received) I also typed 3 updates by email to clients that were emailing constantly with similar questions and chased two solicitors by email, guess what I wear a headset I wasn't being rude I was just doing my job and doing what the clients want me to do, thats chase and update................:cool:0 -
unless you pay at least £500 plus VAT, and make sure you get your own personal solicitor throughout, with their email and direct telephone number, you have only yourself to blame.
We paying them £1400 + vat. That doesn't include all the extra indemnity insurance either. So for that I expect at least a half decent service.0 -
We have been waiting for weeks now for the end of the chain. Finally yesterday we were told all was ready to exchange with completion next week. Now the wait goes on because the end of chain hasn't said which day is agreeable to him! We are in rented accommodation which expires Dec,23rd and we cannot extend it owing to another booking (it is a holiday let) End of chain Solicitor has been pretty bad as well.
What I think is needed is a sort of Trip Advisor for all "professionals" in the house buying process; "Shysteradvisor maybe? Then we could choose a bit more carefully as so many seem so utterly incompetent & annoyingly get away with it as there seems to be nothing anyone can do. Grrrrrrrrrr. Fuming!0 -
I've been calling mine once a week though she is never there it seems. Her secretary is always helpful however so cant complain too much. The delay is being caused by the vendors solicitors apparently which doesn't surprise me as a relative had a bad experience from that firm a while ago.
I actually get more contact from a solicitor who I asked for a quote; she has emailed me twice about a conveyance that is nothing to do with me! It seems she thinks I am a colleague. Sadly I cannot help her with the fact the other solicitors are incompetent and get forms confused.0 -
Well ive just called, and they have pretty much admitted they havent chased this morning.
Im getting sick with nerves with having to spend a weekend sleeping in a car

Your client is paying good money for the service, so can demand an update as often as they like.0 -

You are quite right but if I told you on Monday catagorically that the answer I would have it on Thursday would you ring 3 times a day every day? The point I make is if every single client called me that amount of times everyday then all I would do is pick the phone up and give the same information, if all the estate agents chased that much as well and the solicitors did the same then how do you expect me to deal with your file.Your client is paying good money for the service, so can demand an update as often as they like.
You would be fuming if I told "I cant deal with your file as I am up dating my clients they demand updates as many as they like and they are paying me for it, you will have to wait"
There has to be a balance and priority which I hope I achieve.0 -
