How many times do you chase your solicitor?

                    Another question...
We were due to exchanged last week, but this didnt happen because the bank did not remove the bankruptcy charge in time.
We have had nothing but problems with our solicitor, who seems to have more 'holidays' then anyone i have ever known, never seems to get anything done to chase the sellers solicitors.
I dont know what to do anymore, how many times would you say we should be calling them? Everyday they say 'we hope it will be today' we were told to hand in our notice in our current rental property and because we have still not exchanged... we are homeless from friday!

            answer = all the time!
ours seemed to have an inordinate amount of sick leave, holidays etc and nothing got done unless I hastled them constantly. Then I handed over the signed documents on the Friday and the solicitor said she would be in touch on the monday (completion tues). Heard nothing so rang up tuesday morning and turns out she had left the company!
It seems many solicitors are the same unless you keep on at them...you wonder what you pay them for!0 -
Just had a call from ours to say stop calling us, (i called at 945am and 12pm) and apparently i made his PA cry? i havent even spoken to her today!!!!!!0

Jalapee & Victhesmith....yes agree with you both. I know it gets a bit embarrasing keeping on constantly and you start thinking 'i haven't got it in me to keep on anymore'
My sale has been going on 16 weeks now and my solicitor hates me keeping on at her, but nothing seems to get done. I find out more than them and pass messages on. They always seem to be on holiday and with christmas approaching getting even slower.
Been a very slow process for us, we are due to exchange this week but I don't hold out for it. Getting used to nothing happening when it should.
So in answer, especially at this stage just ring daily-you won't have to see /speak to them ever again after this is over!!
Good luck for exchanging this wk to you both and me!!0 -

Ha ha ha ha ha :rotfl:
this has cheered me up, (made me laugh that you upset them, not that you have been 'told off'!!)
might try mine again as she hasn't returned my call from this morning!!
Tell them if they aren't keeping you updated you have no choice but to keep on at them! How rude though telling you to stop calling.
oh and hello, but your the one who should be crying because the exchange hasn't happened you are due to be homeless friday...tell them it's making you somewhat anxious! Actually gone from laughing at them to annoyed on your behalf now....please keep us updated Jalapee0 -
Oh dear, I must have been very lucky as I didn't need to chase mine at all. It was a chain of 4 as well, the other solicitors must have been good too.
You are paying them a lot of money for this so-called service, keep calling until you get an update. What does "we hope it will be today" even mean? Who/what are they waiting for? It might be worth phoning the estate agent, they might know who is ready and who isn't.0 -
I spoke to or emailed my solicitor every day, and we completed in 8 weeks. Although I will say, that the estate agent worked hard for his commission because he was on the phone to both solicitors daily, pushing things through.
I would definitely tell them off for tellign you off. As klolav said, if they kept you updated you wouldn't have to keep calling. And while you're at it, ask them what they are going to do about the fact that you are homeless on Friday after following their advice! You had me at your proper use of "you're".0 -

I know!
I dont even know what i have done! Our daily convos go like this:
Me: Hi **** its *** calling about ***** any news?
Solicitor: no nothing as of yet, ill re chase for you and call you back
Of course there is no call back!
Getting so annoyed with it all, but i have been keeping updated via our estate agent (who is the only honest one out the lot of them!)
Also the receivers, who i keep updated with ( they guy we are buying off went bankrupt) have just called to say everything was done this morning and he is baffled why we havent exchanged yet!
Off to call the solicitors i go....!0 -

We were waiting for the DS3 form to be approved by the bank or something, as the original form sent was incorrect?0 -
