Hi,

I know there are loads of posts on here regarding this, and have read through the majority, but am still at a loss, I'm walking down the aisle to Canon , but stuck on what to play to the guests before I arrive and for the signing of the register.

I am not a fan of violin music, I find it a bit screechy, so something by the vitamin string quartet is out. Also in love with KC and JoJo, all my life, A1 Like a Rose and DJ Sammy Heaven but can't have these as having a civil ceremony.

I'm thinking Des'ree kissing you and michelle featherstone man & wife for the signing of the register but not sure what to put in the middle as they don't flow together. Maybe Lionel Richie Stuck on you? But not sure.

Also stuck on things to play for when the guests are waiting for me to arrive. I presume i'd need about 4 songs for this??

Any advice on songs would be gratefully appreciated.
Hoping the comping fairy is nice this month and the postman comes.

I wouldn't automatically rule out songs just cos it's a civil ceremony...contact your registrar. Although some are ridiculously strict, they aren't all like that. Our one said they're pretty relaxed and said as long as it's not an out-and-out hymn they let a lot through; she said they've even had Ave Maria which I thought was about as religious as you could get!

my sister had an insturmental harp music cd from amazon for her wedding. it had popular love songs as well as traditional wedding music on it. it was lovely. might be worth a look on there?
  • Yeah, instrumental versions of songs will be fine and I got one from Amazon (was Vitamin String Quartet though)

My advice is...don't get too worked up by it. I did, it drove me INSANE trying to choose what music to have. But I can barely remember it now (was August) and I bet if I asked all of my guests, not one would remember. Of course, the walking down the aisle I remember (Can you feel the love tonight - instrumental) and our walk out as man and wife (Take That Greatest Day)

Went to a wedding last Friday of a close friend - no idea what any of her music was, even the first dance!

I'm walking down the aisle to Viva la Vida (Vitamin String Quartet so that doesn't help you)

I will be having Chasing Cars at some point if I don't have it for the first dance.

I also have some songs that I may use but I haven't decided where

Elbow - One day like this
    Robbie Williams - Angel
Take That - Rule The World
    Aerosmith - I don't want to miss a thing
    Lonestar - Amazed
And thanks to Trying2bGood I'm going to add Take That - Greatest Day

Only problem with my choices is that when I listen to them as a playlist one after the other it sounds too lovey dovey crap.

I don't think my guests would like my preferred music though as I prefer heavier stuff (and Snow Patrol).

Olokia - we are having Elbow - 'One Day' as the last song before the kids go home at night! They are being whisked away at 10pm and I want them to go on a high.

I *think* I'm having 'At Last' as my entrance song and before that I want Prince 'Forever in my life' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NuMU8KU1osU along with someother fun songs about love. Not sure about signing the register, but want to leave to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF9mKXd80Z4. I want our first dance to be to this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wd-GHKRwn34 sung by the band as our fist dance!

I've not quite decided yet, what we're having, just now I'm thinking of walking in to Yiruma, signing register/walking out to hoppipolla by sigur ros and first song by Aerosmith, although thats probably subject to change pretty soon!
  • Thanks for all the suggestions, I know I'm majorly stressing over a little thing, and i'm not even going to hear half of it as will be before I arrive, but still doing it. :( . I think I need to speak to the registrar and see how strict they are and see if can get away with any of my original choices. Thank you.

I walked down the aisle to Sometimes by James, and we had 500miles by the proclaimers playing while we signed the register.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just upping this so as not to start a new thread....

What is everyone having for ceremony music? We're looking now but no idea!
First baby due 3/3/14 - Team Yellow! Our little girl born 25/2/14 :D
  • Haven't decided all the ceremony music yet (it's a church wedding so will be all religious or classical music, which will be lovely) but we will definitely be having 'Gabriel's Oboe' and 'Benedictus' by Karl Jenkins as I love them both.

And our first dance song is 'Moon River' by our fab all-female swing band! I am beyond excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
