    Could you not just walk?

I think that would be the answer, I think I will let the groom stay in the church, (huh) get all the guests to gather outside the house she is leaving from and we'll ALL walk to the church.

    Howsa bout that then.

It wasnt my wedding so I have no idea. I can't imagine they bought it though. Should imagine it was hired from some theatrical supplies place, but again no idea how much that would have cost. It was just an idea though.

I think thats a lovely idea, maybe beyond the budget though.

Maybe a wide ribbon, that might work

    Bucketing down.

Dad (my OH) suggested that we have one of those pop up gazebos, enlist the help of 4 people from the public who were wet anyway to protect bride, dad and 3 brides maids. Payment would be invitation to the 'night do' We laughed at first then though He's not such a silly old b u gg er after all. lol, love him to bits really

I walked down to the church when I got married. I didn't hire a red carpet or anything, my Aunty just made my cousin sweep the path the day before the wedding! We had brollies on standby in case it was heavy rain but we were fine rain wise.
I wouldn't bother going for the gazebo because it's a disaster waiting to happen. How about if there's a sudden gust of wind?
I also wouldn't get the bridal party and guests to all walk together. Otherwise, what's the bride going to do whilst all of the guests faff and fiddle around saying hello to everyone else and getting the right seat and swapping around because Aunty Flo's got a massive hat on so little Johnny can't see? Just get the guests (that includes the Mother of the Bride) in the building and then the Bridal party meander down when it's time. Bridesmaids in front and Dad /Daughter at back.
The fewer people there, the less chance there is of someone going in a big puddle or everyone crowding together and knocking over the bride. It also won't spoil her special entrance :)

Great ideas, I have to say though, that I had a horse and carriage for my wedding, (21 years ago) and loved it!!
It was also very handy for the 'scramble' as well!!
    Have a wonderful day. xx

my neighbour walked....we live quite near the church...it was lovely,
  • Try looking for your nearest carriage driving club, I note a previous poster has mentioned the British Driving Society but your local club may know of someone who does them but doesn't advertise. It may be worth a phone call.

My parents house is pretty close to the church where I got married and I did consider walking there. i was soooooo glad that I didn't though as my feet were killing by the time the evening reception started as it was.....I ended up with my slippers on under my dress for the evening! WOuld probs be OK if the bride is used to wearing heels all day and walking in them or is having more sensible shoes but somthing worth considering if not!!

I know that normally bride leaves house with dad, bridesmaids in a different car, car waits till after ceremony and takes couple to recepion but we have to have a different scenario.

Me and OH will already be in York

Bride and 3 bridesmaids will leave the house and travel to York to meet me and OH at his sisters house, I will leave them to it and go
    to the church. and wait.

    So,

Any idea of cost of pick up bride and bridemaids, drive approx. 25 miles, drop off at venue and then leave, the reception is at the venue
so its not needed any further.

So, a big car for say 3 hours or do they just charge for the whole day regardless.

Sorry, Ive never done this before.............

They charge for the whole day regardless but you might find the price goes up if they have to do a long-ish drive.
If Bridal party is being dropped off at a house and going from that house to the venue, surely she doesn't need a wedding car? Most people only have them for the photos anyway. If she really doesn't want to drive, can't she get a taxi?
How about asking on the wedding board to see what their suggestions are?
