Obviously never heard of sarcasm :D

    You're doing it wrong.

    Have you called yet?

I don't disagree with your decision actually, I just think its daft to claim that you are 100% certain of what happens to those dogs unless you do in fact keep watch 24 hours a day, and the fact that you call them the Clampetts tells me more about you than about them.
  • If you are really concerned, give the RSPCA a ring and see what they say. Although they seem to be pretty much useless most of the time from what I can gather!

Sunflower: I own Bordeauxs, you definitely need to address this issue as you own a dog that could potentially grow to be 70KGs+ so you HAVE to get him under your control.
Bordeauxs are not only physically strong but headstrong too, and if they think they have the upper hand they will walk all over you!
My advice is same as the others, get him to a training class and get him well socialised with other dogs and people, also rather than a halti try a canny collar when you walk him, much more effective than a Halti as it clips at the back of the head instead of under the chin for better control. They are recommended for Mastiff type breeds. I am 8 and a half stone and can control a 60KG Dogue with one hand with one of those! You can get them cheap on eBay.

As for walking times, any young pup should never be over walked as it can cause problems with development. Even though they are a large breed they do not need a lot of exercise, I find one long walk and 2 shorter toilet walks are sufficient for an adult dog. You can also play games/do training with them in the house to keep their brains working! Mental stimulation can tire them out as much as physical!
If you need more specific breed advice, try the Dogue de Bordeaux welfare forum or one of the UK Facebook pages, someone is always around on those to offer advice!
Good luck, you've picked the best breed in the world! Lol :)
