so new posters arnt to be believed because they dont post anywhere else? have you considered that possibly theres nothing else of interest to us on the site as we have better things to do than comment on everything anyone posts, i certainly dont have the time to sit for hours at the computer dispensing my veiws and opinions on topics i have no interest in. Googling purely pets (as i just did so i can download yet another claim form for an ongoing condition) brings up the company website and the result directly below is this post. yes its good to be cynical but to insinuate that all newbies are posting glowing reports for some underhand reason is tbh the reason i dont bother with forums as i get fed up of some peoples attitudes on them. I always thought the purpose of open forums is so anyone can post their views but is seems on here they are only considered valid if your some kind of keyboard warrior commenting on anything whether valid points or just drivel and new people arnt allowed to comment positively without someone insinuating they work for the company or have some ulterior motive - after all the people putting negative comments could work for their rivals and be trying to put them out of business or havent you considered that angle?

regarding purely pets, its cheap insurance. i now have an ongoing claim with them and they pay the vet direct within a week of submitting a claim form. they call you back if you ask saving money on fone calls, they pay promptly, charlies had no end of diagnostic tests trying to sort his ears that have been paid - no they wont pay for a fishing expedition but having known vets who run tests on insured dogs just to bump up their money i dont blame them, as for the lady who didnt get it paid due to the vets wording im sorry you lost out but you cant really blame the company as for all they know you knew there was an issue before you took the insurance out. at the end of the day yes they may be out of business in a few years but so could pet plan, just cos your big doesnt mean your safe, im sure staff at woolworths and all the other big companies that have gone belly up in the last few years felt secure in their 'bigness'. i cant afford £25 - £40 per dog that pet plan want a month, maybe i will come a cropper with an expensive issue in years to come but it sure as hell has saved me a fortune this year as this ear issue is going to be nearly at the £2000 limit by the time its done and its insured next year for the same amount. i will be renewing and insuring any future dogs with PP as the price and cover suits me, i hope all the cynics and slaters who have no experience with the company dont do so much damage with their comments that the company goes belly up as that will leave my lot with no insurance at all.
  • o and having just put the post theres a warning on the side saying alert newbie, MSE requests you give new posters a chance! please be especially nice, maybe some of you should read this before insulting us with posts like those below? i certainly wont be bothering with this forum again as obviously my opinions arnt wanted if they dont go along with being cynical or negative about something so thanks for the welcome!!!!!!!!

And this thread in particular has a lot of first time posters writing glowing reports. Some never to post anywhere else again... INteresting...
  • After searching on Google for an insurance for my 9 yr old Doberman I came across Purely Pets. I was very dubious as I'd never heard of them, but after reading the small print and seeing the monthly instalments I went ahead and now have a policy with them. And they have been brilliant. After having the insurance for a yr my Doberman became very ill and infact is still ill. I must admit I do have to pay for all my dogs tablets upfront and then claim it back but this usually only takes roughly 3 weeks until the money is in my bank. He did have to visit a specialist for scans and an ECG but I arranged for them to be paid directly from Purely Pets and this was done very quick as well. All in all, I am very satisfied with them.

    You got it first time!

Do you believe everything someone you've never met tells you? Assuming you don't, that doesn't make you nasty, it makes you rational. Likewise, it doesn't make people who point this out insulting.

Of course, even if one can be fairly certain that someone isn't shilling, it's still an opinion. Like my one that AXA insurance was a safe bet . . . :) .
  • after a lot of research, i took out comprehensive insurance with Purely Pets (£30 a month) for my pug. In the first 6 months i needed to make a claim, and was really impressed with the way they dealt with it and paid out. HOWEVER, I then received my annual quote, which had increased from £30, to £45 -an astronomical 50% rise. When I challenged them I was told it was due to making a claim. I told them that all this increase would simply result in me taking my business elsewhere (I'm now with a company thet promises not to increase premiums following a claim). The operator told me it was the underwriter that sets the rates. I really don't understand their business model, as I would have stayed with this company. who would have recouped their money within another year. I also note there is nothing about raising premiums on their FAQ's. Very dissapointing experience. :(

I insured my black Labrador with Purely Pets in April 2012. In the May (about 4 weeks later) he was diagnosed with a life threatening tumour in his spleen and needed an emergency operation costing over £1,200. I phoned Purely Pets when we got home from the vets at 8.00pm and they asked for the vets to send them details of the operation the next morning. They did, we had the operation done that day and they paid up without a murmur. They also paid for all follow up treatment up to the point we had to put him to sleep in the September as the cancer had spread. They also sent us a very nice letter commiserating with our loss. Personally I couldn't fault them and put a post on here at the time.
