Anyone used Purely Pets dog insurance??
Comments

Having had both Halifax and HSBC withdraw from the market after I'd signed up, I couldn't recommend anyone who wasn't extremely well known for pet insurance. Think PP, AXA, ???
EDIT: Just realised this thread is about Purely Pets, so me referring to "PP" might be a little confusing. PetPlan.

I was just looking at Purely Pets on a compare site and was hoping to go with them. At the moment i'm with Direct Line and it is costing us £72 a month for our 8 year old Rottie. I have never had to make a claim before and hopefully wont in the future but i can no longer afford the monthly payments. (costs more than our car insurance). I'm worried about going with them now as i dont want my pooch to get ill and find he isnt covered for certain things. Anyone know of anyone else worth looking at please?0

Just reading about the Rottie concerns: PLEASE READ
EVERY new companies must start somewhere - and although i suspect they are advertising low because they want new custom etc and the plansprob will go up as they become established, they have a VERY good premium - far far better then most companies i have viewed.
ALSO - the cover is BETTER then most of them
For example - many of the big, well known companies premium will offer similar benefits (BASED ON LIFETIME POLICY) but a minimum of 30% more and many well known companies 100% more.
Based on my 4 yr old Miniature pinscher, neutered and chipped.
premium for lifetime is approx £20. This covers £7500 PER YEAR - so if he gets cancer and needs £7500 every year for 5 years, this is covered. The death benefit is £1500. The boarding fees £750. Lost/missing £1500 plus £500 advertising fees. Then there is the EU cover.. all with an excess of £99.
Similar quote with Tesco BUT NOT AS COMPREHENSIVE ie. £1000 death benefit, £6000 vet fee, less for everything, was over £30
Sainsbury was over £33 and some other big companies were as much as £40 - i could find NO BETTER cover with ANY company - not in terms of price but in terms of the actual cover and benefits.
Some of these companies offer only EG. Max of £20k / £5k every year so if your pet needed treatment upto £6k every year for 10 years, according to these policies - you could never go over the £20k lifetime .
The point to remember is ALL OUR PETS NEED SPECIFIC THINGS. MY QUOTE WOULD BE NO GOOD FOR PETE OF MARY BUT GREAT FOR SUE AND JOHN'S SIMILAR PET STATS.
ALL INSURANCE COMPANIES WILL HAVE TERMS AND CONDITIONS IN THE SMALL PRINT - AND EVERYONE SHOULD READ THIS CAREFULLY!
FOR THE ROTTIE IN PARTICULAR HOWEVER: With no previous/no need for claim so far (and hopefully will stay this way), as in my situation, I would go for PP insurance HOWEVER if you have a concern, MORE TH>N pet insurance was voted top in 2010 and I find very well priced / very similar to PurelyPets in price and with similar benefits (although not at good) but best priced and are very well known and respected.
Good luck and let us know how you get on!0 -
I also bought purely pets insurance, and they have been deducting their premium from my bank account for the last three months, but I still haven't received any documentation from them. Now I need to make a claim so I found their website and tried entering my postcode and the reference number on my statement but it wasn't recognised. I will try and call them tomorrow and post and update on how easy it is to make a claim.0

Just had a good quote and looking at their policy key facts doesn't seem any worse than M&S who we're currently with and is now very expensive!! In fact because our cat is now old they charge less %age of the fees than some of the other companies.
Let me know how you get on as need to cancel mine tomorrow and switch as due to renewal on 26th.0 -
Hi,
Just to say I switched from Tesco dog insurance, £39 per month at renewal, to Purely Pets £18.00 per month in April. Six week later my beautiful black labrador was taken ill and diagnosed with a lump on his spleen. He needed immediate surgery to save his life. Purely Pets need to authorise any treatment over £1,000 so I phoned them at 10 to 8 at night, having just got home from the vets and by 9.00am the next day they had authorised the cost of the operation.
He has made a good recovery but has cancer so his long term prognosis is not good but at the moment he is like a new dog, full of beans and wanting lots of cuddles.
Purely Pets paid out, less £99 excess and a 15% "older dog" restriction, and 10 days after the claim was made I received a cheque for £972.00.
I can't fault them.:TNothing is truly lost until your mum can't find it!0 -
Purely Pets are administerd by Ultimate Pet Partners (UPP) who are, on a smaller scale perhaps, competitors with BDML and they administer pet insurance for many companies
Purely coincidence that UPP share a registered office with BDML then? Not that I have a problem with BDML; all my dealings with them (as representatives of Halifax) were good.
Seriously guys, avoid Purely Pets. They can be the nicest people in the world, but are they going to be offering pet insurance in 5 years time?0 -
Personally would be very waty... My friend is having major issues with Animal Friends.. this may be smilar case.
Can not move Zara and George as both got pre-existing condition so they are staying with Argos - but moved other 5 cats to Pet Plan for my own peace of mind.
Never had issues with Argos, they pay up for the claims - takes them a bit long but...
What is also iportant for me is vet being able to accept direct claims and from Argos there is no problems, my vet does and FR where Zara had her hip op did too. Same with Pet Plan,0 -
Be Very careful. I have just had a claim for over £700 rejectedby Purely Pets (Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) Plc.) on the grounds of thewording in the vet’s notes. I passed theclaim to the Ombudsman who gave the decision in the favour of Purely Pets becauseof the 7 day cooling off period prior to insurance cover being put inplace. My dog Molly insurance started withthem on 12th March, add 7 days cooling off period, that takes you tothe 19th March, Molly was examined by my vet on the 21st thiswas the starting of a an anal gland problem, I said that I had noticed a smellfrom the dog over the last couple of days, in his notes he wrote ‘fewdays’. Unfortunately the Ombudsman saidthat a ‘few days’ is viewed as more than two days, so the claim was rejected, ato the letter of the law decision? Nogoodwill has been made by Purely Pets.

My friend has insurance with this company, I had advised against it due to not being able to find much out about them, plus their wording was (IMO) open to interpretation
Fast forward a couple of months, their dog needed a cruciate op', they stated the £1500 they go up to was for both cruciates! She has only had the one cruciate done, but the op' came to more than the £1500 they allow for. Of course now, if the other one goes, (which is quite likely) then they will have to pay for it themselves, no point in now insuring with somneone else, as they won't be coverted for cruciate problemsJust bumbling along, trying to save some moneyCouldn't do it without coming here every day:T:T:T£2 Savers ClubSealed Pot Challenge - ~16930
