Yes those who are under the age of thirteen and have responsible parents.

I take offence at that remark. I allow my 9 year old son on fb, and I consider myself a VERY responsible parent!

I'm sure you are BUT it IS still a breach of the terms and condiitions you agreed to on sign up, and in fact you could have only proceeded if you fibbed on the age...

Having run Securus on school provided laptops and seen the stuff that some kids have gotten up to on FB I wouldn't let them on there, as soon as you let them have a device like this unless you're sitting there always with them (no bad thing) then you have no idea whether they've strayed etc even the best kids do. Even more worrying with devices with cameras built in.

I caught a couple of them who had uploaded pics of them in their underwear etc now don't know if anyone knows but if a child takes any pics that could be construed as pornographic then even if the child took them of themselves they could be prosecuted for production of child pornography and anyone who encouraged them to (say a friend or boyfriend) gets done for incitement to produce. They both get a criminal record, both end up possibly on the sex offenders reg and both have a black mark against them forever should a CRB check be done on them for employment in future.

All of that aside you upload something like that and you've instantly lost control of it, a friend decides to distribute it and start bullying you, blackmail etc it certainly wouldn't be the first time something like that's happened.

That's not having a dig at you about the above at all I was just replying to your responsible line above the rest is just from my experience at finding things like this out and dealing with the aftermath of it.

Quite frightening what they can get up to with nothing more than a mobile phone even, there's a whole world of trouble out there and that's without any adult "grooming" or inciting them etc.

Scary stuff. There are plenty of other "safe" social networking sites specifically aimed at children that are monitored and moderated to keep them safe so i'd stay well away from FB. My personal opinion is even at 13 i'd rather they didn't but there ya go...

At the end of the day you can only make the decision that you think is best for you and yours at the time and that's about it at the end of the day

please excuse my late reply i was swiftly deleting my kids facebooks accounts :rotfl::rotfl:

yes facebook has rules but so do i my kids accounts are linked up to my email addresses and i know exactly what they do with their accounts i also have a 15 yr old who uses facebook and i also know what he does too i check every night and i also check friends list no i dont sit at there backs watching them every minute but i have a grip on it my kids are respectfull of my rules believe me if i didnt think they where mature enough they would not have the facebook accounts

nearly every child i know has facebook what harm are they doin maybe some kids are un-trustworthy and do things they shouldnt but dont judge every child with what a few get up to and please dont judge me either u dont know me......

i wasnt looking for an arguement just simply giving my opinion on the product

wouldnt it be best if u focused your attention on something mroe worthwhile other than my children using facebook no matter what age they ???

thanks for your opinion floflo as i said i take offence to being judged by ppl who dont know the first thing about me i am very responsible parent thanks :)

  • I'm with Mandy. I'm a very responsible parent, and I know exactly what my kids are up to. They know never to have anyone on their Facebook who they don't know personally. I check that they don't, but they wouldn't anyway - they are sensible kids. Facebook is a way of them keeping in touch with their friends and playing games - it isn't like a chatroom where there could be anyone in there!

The problem with your theory guys is that it simply drives things underground. My son has a couple of friends who aren't allowed on Facebook, and one of them has an account his parents don't know about and he simply use it at friend's houses. They can even access Facebook at school!!! I would much rather give my kids the slack and know what they're up to than them going behind my back.

Used correctly sites such as Facebook really aren't as dangerous as you make out. Parents just need to keep a close eye, and make sure that all privacy settings are set correctly :D
