If the driver is provided with a device which they have been given for the sole purpose of obtaining a POD, then if they do not obtain a POD, they've failed in their job.

It's not unbeknown for a driver to go to the address, find nobody in, and sign for it themselves. They've got a signature, the driver gets interviewed and claims they delivered it and the customer is pulling a fast one. They keep their job and steal the item.

You get as many rogue drivers as you do customers. Human nature...

Which totally wrecks your previous argument!!!

Its about trust and honesty...a few rogue drivers and a few dishonest customers cannot be allowed to dictate the policy for the majority of honest drivers and customers.

Actually talking about deliveries, I had a delivery of books, about £100 worth for DS for Xmas from Amazon on friday. DS found them, they had been left in front of my car on the drive!!!! The delivery card even said in front of car! They could have been easily pinched but what annoyed me more was that my DS found them and now knows that he's got them as part of his xmas pressie. He obviously didnt open them and I've bluffed that it's a pressie for his dad but he doesnt believe me so I was pretty peed off:(

But you left the car open on the drive!

Sorry but I really can't understand anyone complaining at a delivery driver using their initiative when they are faced with open cars, unlocked porches/front doors or other convenient places to leave packages.

I'm sorry but posting things like this is going to give a minority ideas of obtaining goods by deception.

Yes, they may be better off in the short term, but at what cost?

An honest delivery guy who was trying to do them a favour by saving them a journey to the depot or having to rearrange delivery loses his job at Christmas and is doomed to picking up a giro as his future employment prospects are zero. Nice Christmas present for him and his dependants.

Stating facts about the odd dishonest delivery driver does not provide justification for honest delivery drivers losing their jobs for the mistake of being trusting.

I am genuinely shocked that such a thing is even being discussed.

    Edit:

Something else to consider for anyone else considering fraud (for that is exactly what this is), losing your job when you have tried to do someone a favour, in this economic climate, could push a guy over the edge...
...don't forget that your address is known to them!!!

Oh I was assuming they meant on the ground in front of the car.

I have a parcel at the moment at the royal mail parcel office but they can't find it. They have a porta cabin for names a-j and all the parcels are jumbled in there in no particular order that I can see. Hubby waited for half an hour while 3 of them rummaged and chucked parcels around but couldn't find it.

Morning guys - I was hoping to take Mr 3Dogs for a gently walk around the car boot to take cards, meet friends and pick up a few bits but he was writhing in agony again this morning with that sciatica - so he's now had his breakfast, m0rphine and other meds and is sound asleep again. I am just going to get dressed and go down myself for a while so see ya' all laters :D

Oooooh on re-reading it I think you could be right! I read it as in the front of the car. If he left them on the drive out in the elements not knowing when someone would be back then thats rather stupid and is worthy of a complaint imo.

    Sorry nikki! :)

FK....i don't think LALA left her car door open...the parcel was placed in front of her car.
