Sounds a bit odd, who wants to charge you £ 60, BT, your old ISP or Sky?

    Sky will charge:-
Sky Broadband set-up fees for existing Sky TV customers £60 for Everyday Lite, £30 for Connect or free for Unlimited. £30 set-up fee for Connect for customers without Sky TV.

Sky Talk: 12 month minimum term applies to new Sky Talk customers and to existing customers taking up Sky Line Rental. Sky Talk is only available to customers paying by Direct Debit/continuous credit card mandate. Calls only packages not available to BT line rental customers with BT Basics or if outgoing calls are barred. Sky Line Rental required (£12.25 per month). Connection charge from £39 may apply for customers without an active BT compatible line. Codes of Practice for sales and marketing and premium rate/NTS services can be found at sky.com/skytalk

Sky are saying it's a one off payment to BT to switch the line over from them to Sky but it was Sky who took my card details to make the payment.

No such payment should be required, if Sky want to LLU your line then it must be at their expense.
Do you currently pay line rental to BT or another ISP ?

  • I was paying Orange for my BB and Line Rental but they basically just piggy backed the BT line.

The issue has been resolved anyway as i've just came off the phone to Sky. Went all 'Michael Douglas in Falling Down' on their asses. :D

    Thanks for the replies though.

But you said BT. If your line is already LLU'd by Orange, then what Sky are actually doing is installing a new line and charging you £60 for that.
It's next to impossible to go direct from LLU to LLU- you have to go back to BT on a 'return to donor' first for 12m line rental.

A lot of Orange lines have gone back to BTW, mine was one of them although I moved back to BT last month from Orange as I didn't need the broadband anymore.

Great advice across the board, thanks.
I think I'll approach bt retention first. I live out in the sticks so changing to sky may cause problems as I also work from home some times.
    Thanks again all

Decided to stay with BT on balance due to the distance from the exchange.

BT reduced my option 2 to 10.25 per month and I pre paid my line rental. A nice saving per year.

    Thanks again.

What has staying with BT got to do with distance from the exchange? It's the same line from there regardless of which ISP you use.
