At most you will get 5 months tax back as you can only claim for full months. Did ownership actually change as you may not get anything back if you are not on the V5C.

I paid £500 for the car and i had to pay another £120 for the roadtax for the six months . She said she would refund me the price of the car but not the tax as she did not sell it to me .

I will withold the disc but i do not know how to get an refund without the Log book , i only have the green slip which they want back with the car with the mot ..

I am going today to get it sorted ( hopefully)

Take the car back, including the tax disk, and say "I want £620 from you, else I'm calling the police"

Any mention AT ALL of "but but but...", and your response is simply "Fine, I'm calling the police."

Walk off, and call the police. You can guarantee they'll give you that £620 before your finger hits the first digit of the Police Station telephone number.

We bought a clocked car. Chalked it up to experience. Luckily that car is lovely and we've looked after it.

To restore balance to the universe we'll be honest about the mileage being incorrect when we come to sell it.

Thats going to be a hard sell even if the price is significantly less than one which hasnt been clocked.

no it wasnt not that i advised to cal them either, you would simply have a "its a civial matter, we cannot assist you" reply anyway and the garage would have simply called thier bluff been more stubborn and could have exasserbated the whole situation wich could have turned ugly as their approach was slightly aggressive. threats get you nowhere knowladge and standing your ground does.

Just to follow up , i went to the police but they did not want to know as the matter has been resolved .

I will contact trading standards but i think they may say the same thing , i do not think it is right as the car could have been dangerous plus the car is still up for sale.

I can't believe you haven't done this yet.

As everyone told you, TS is the way to go and you should have done it straightaway. It isn't a police matter so why waste your time there?

Going to TS is the only hope they won't keep doing it. Chances are there is a big file on these cowboys.
