Why would the car be dangerous because of milage?
£500 is still a decent price, to be honest I'd see if I could screw the seller into a £200 refund and then see how much motoring I could get for my £300 car!

They hold miles well, those 306's.

However, They pulled a classic trick on you - "I'll post the paperwork on" - I bet you'll never see it.

IF you'd only be happy with a refund, then that's what you should try and get. But if you think you can use the situation to get a deal, then perhaps you should do that?

it was also on the advisories where certain things were left out which has got me wondering about the safety of the car.

    Front crossmember corroded
All tyres wear on inner and outer edges
    Power steering pipes corroded
    Oil leak
Front brake discs corroded and worn
    Battery insecure

I do not want to get into dealing with these people as i do not know where it will lead .

As i said they changed the mot slip to say that the sold the car in 2010 so it looks like i had turned the clock back

to me if she was selling on behalf of a customer, the garage was selling it.

if the clocks had been changed the advert must detail this, it wasnt as is not as described.

the advert should have read 119k on clock but vehicle done 179k as clocks had been change due to fault. or simply advertised as 179k. this was a deliberate mislead IMHO had this been discussed prior to purchase where they divulged the clock odemtet reading not being accurate you would not have a leg to stand on appart from contacting trading standards about how your purchased a private sale vehicle through a garage. but as this wasnt descibed or discussed the vehicle is not as described.

as your purchased this vehicle £500 and priced to relect its mileage, and say a similar car with 180k is worth £350 you could be entitled to ask for the difference refunded =£150.00 but all the same your entitled to a refund because it wasnt as described after checking the vehicles history.

Whatever the result, please report the garage to trading standards. The next customer might not be so lucky

    Good God what a nightmare!
They are only advisories though - if they were dangerous (at time of test) they would have failed the car. That it has them noted at all is a good thing. Dodgy MO's tend to have very little written on them at all.
Did you see ANY paperwork at all when you went to see this car?
Did you inspect it or test drive it?

I'd be looking to get a refund ,they're obvoiously sharks. Get trading standards involved now, you don't need to tell them that you've done it.

Odd thing is, that car would probably be £500 on ebay with faults described, if it could get a legit MOT. I don't know why these garages bother.

Say you want a refund and give them the car back only when you've got cash in your hand. Car not as described in ad. I hope oit doesn't get messy but don't be intimidated.

I think my car was clocked...sadly I didn't notice until a year or so later after checking the MOT site.
What is pi? Where did it come from?
  • report it to trading standards garages story isnt straight for a start and is not as described and seems the advert was deliberately misleading you to believe the vehicle had infact done just under 120K. no mention of clocks changed upon purchase either and thats where people usually get out of the description clause in SOGA in private sales.

12 months Mot and some tax isn't bad for £500 considering you can get £150 for it scrap a year from now. People lose 10 times this amount on new cars in depreciation annually.

I paid £500 for the car and i had to pay another £120 for the roadtax for the six months . She said she would refund me the price of the car but not the tax as she did not sell it to me .

I will withold the disc but i do not know how to get an refund without the Log book , i only have the green slip which they want back with the car with the mot ..

I am going today to get it sorted ( hopefully)

I took the car for an test drive and all seemed fine but as all the work were suposedly done at the garage where she worked , i do not know if they did just enough work just to pass the car.
