.... and if you go through topcashback for your first supermarket online orders you get cash back too. Thanks aliboy and Nomi i think I will try the next monthly shop with all the ideas combined as a challenge to see how far I can push it

Nomi -:rotfl:You can't buy soap nuts cos your cupboards too full made me laugh out loud, although i am exactly the same with half price coffee so I shouldn't laugh.

I can never buy cheap soap cos of my eczema, so i will cross the threshold of my nemisis MR T and try the baby shampoo. SO how long was it exactly that I managed to hold out for my principles. this is the problem..... sooo cheap but also a little bit dirrrrrtttttyyyyy.

OMG- NOt my problem, MR t problem lol:rotfl:

I've said it before and I'll say it again now: I am utterly failing at this at the moment! The last 6ish weeks I've been pretty much non-stop with stupidly long days juggling work, uni, volunteering and the odd personal crisis but I'm back to this and raring to go again now I have a few weeks of calm (more calm than before anyway!). I should get some overtime through this week or next week so that shuld help kick start me again. This afternoon is going to be spent sorting through some stuff to go onto ebay, fingers crossed that at least some will go. I've got a list of areas where I know I can save money so my theory is to put that money over to savings and add it to this challenge (whether that works in reality is another thing though). Going to try and look through a few threads for some other ideas too. Everyone seems to be doing so well; keep doing so as it's inspiring me now I have a couple of hours spare in the day :)

It happens! Last month I did fabulously well, this month is so slow but work is hectic and as that pays me my main salary it comes first!

    Good luck!

erm please dont laugh... what is a soap nut?x
It's o.k I'm not laughing, I didnt know what the hell were soap nuts either. I sat watching one of these how to save money programmes and after watching lots of mad granny's cleaning things with stuff you'd never think of using.

Soap nuts came on and I googled them and basically they are dried fruit shells that contain loads of soap!! You can use them with your fav fabric softner as the soap nuts dont smell of anything. One website is www.soapnuts.co.uk but as I said I bought my first bag for £5/6 quid off of ebay and I'm still using the same bag of nuts 4 MONTHS LATER!!
I have quite bad eczema and my kids get eczema too. But were all fine on soap nuts, give it a try:)
O.m.g Quidco finally coughed up cash:jWent to my bank account and had an extra £27.63p in it from them:) I think thats six months it took them to cash out, wont be using them again. Anyway rounded it up to the pound so I put another £28.00 in my 2012 in 2012 savings account. Well chuffed:beer:

I use my supermarket.co.uk for my on line shopping - you can sign up I think for first shop through a cash back site too. I love it because once you chose an item, it shows you all the cheaper alternatives eg no frills brand, alternative brands, buy in bulk to save etc, so you can make a quick choice without having to trawl the supermarket. It also compares the price of your basket to other supermarkets. I'm sure it's not always 100% accurate but it does get me to think about choosing different (cheaper) options, whereas I might not have before. And it shows you how much you saved by swapping items.

    Give it a go!

I made another boo boo- all the habits I thought were ingrained enough by now to relax have only half stuck this month.

Of course I won't be buying baby shampoo for soap, because I still have 3 bogof soaps, one v expensive xmas pressie soap, 2 gift set soaps, 2 felt covered soaps and one brought back from a foreign hotel 3 years ago all lined up on my toiletry shelf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

However I have 3 baths left and then I can buy a bubble bath. This will be the first toiletry Ive bought since new year so it feels a real treat to look forward to buying a bottle of Radox ( I can't go cheaper or the harshness starts my eczema), unless Aliboy can suggest a fabulous little bubble bath number that is soft on the skin ?

The soap nuts are blowing my mind! can't decide if its in a good way or not. Double WOW

  • For all those listing on ebay - do you have reserves for your items? I've listed about 11 things and some of them have never been worn and they look like they're going to go for under a couple of quid! I still have 1/2 days on most of my stuff, but just wondered if you let your clothes go for a couple of quid. I know it's profit .. but eep, one of the dresses I'm selling is worth £30 and it still has a tag on it but is only at 0.01p !!

Just a quick update from me as I have not been on here much over the last week or so. I have broken badly into my savings as I now have a beautiful new shiny living room with skimmed walls and all Laura Ashley curtains, wallpaper cushions and lighting AND bought my husband the new TV he wanted which cost £1400  all almost :o guilty free due to this wonderful challenge. It means that my actually savings are down to about £1,500 in the bank and another £800 in my coins jar. Do you think I should push my savings figure down or just keep adding even though I have spent all this money? Sorry dont know how to do it.

Right back on the wagon as I need new fencing down the side of the house (quote is £700) and the hall skimming and new carpet (probably be a total of another £700) but it is so lovely to be able to do this work feel so satisfied and know it is all bought and paid for so thank you again for this challenge, it has changed my way of thinking and way of life :T

I never start the prices of items for less than I am willing to sell them for... Hopes this helps.

Yes I can recommended sainsburys cheap own brand bubble bath, it's blue but dont let that put you off as it works fine for dry eczema. But if your eczema is wheeping:eek:(Boy, do I know that hurt's) dont use anything in your bath and dip in and out as quick as you can. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious:)
I also use this as liquid soap when I'm out of baby shampoo:rotfl:

My question to you all is can anyone think of a cheap screen type thingy I can put up in my garden.
I'll explain...... Have quite a long garden about (60 meteres) and to my right I have a very nosey nasty oap living next door. She had me in floods of tears on my birthday last year after I had told her it was my birthday:eek: she went on to make some very rude, personnal remarks:mad:
Anyway this year I wanted a party in my garden but I dont want her to be glaring in at us. It's her fence so I cant touch that but it's only about 4ft tall. Ive asked if I could add a top layer of woven wood. Which she made a big fuss about and said no. So what can I put up thats quick and cheap, I havent got much money and I dont really care what it looks like:) if it's in my garden. Help please??
