Stopping unwanted cats coming into my house

  • I had the same problem with an intrusive ginger tom.

Make up a plant sprayer, washing the bottle out and making sure it has only water in it. When you hear the intruder, go downstairs and spritz the cat with the water. Exit one cat (who will glare at you forever after, but hey.)

I had this problem many years ago when I was a student sharing a house. We arranged a large concrete slab to block the cat flap from outside when a string was pulled from the bedroom window. When we heard the cat chorus indoors, we pulled the string then went downstairs where the unwanted cat was trapped. After a few squirts of mustard and detergent we let it go. It didn't return.
  • Erm, not too sure if that's the kindest way TBH!

Although at first I was very worried what the concrete slab was going to have to do with it! Meoooooooowwwww! :D

DD had this problem when moved to new house. With one toddler and another baby on the way at that time she was beside herself when the wee fellow was out the back. The cats were her neighbours and used DD's garden as their convenience loo! I bought some cat repellant plants from local garden centre and SIL bought one of these pump up water pistol thingies and used to sit on stake out! The grass had been neglected and was quite long so SIL now keeps it well mowed to deter. Don't think they have so much of a problem these days as she doesn't mention it.

  • I cant have a magnetic cat flap (i used to in my old house) as i had my cat flap fitted in my glass french door - had to spend a fortune having a new panel custom made. and they didnt do magentic ones! AHHHHHHH

Perhaps it would be worth checking with the manufacturer of your existing cat-flap - I had a similar problem and found that even though my cat flap was several years old, I found the did a magnetic one and even more amazingly all I had to do was unscrew the old one, faff about getting it out and then put the new one in, even used the old screws to secure it.
Mine's a Staywell and found their customer services where helpful when I called.

Why not invest in a collar triggered catflap, so only your cat can get in.
They come in magnetic (not powered) and powered versions

    Such as

    Magnetic

    Infra Red

    Powered

We have a magnetic one and it works fine.

Edit - last link is playing up, but its on their website as well

NB I am not recommending this supplier as such, just used them as an exqmple of what is out there.

Keep your cat in for a few nights and just put a power supply (low voltage) to the cat flap. A few shocks and the cats will fear your cat flap.

My other idea is far too cruel to say but it would certainly solve the problem :A

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: high voltage would be better :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
