The dangerous wind this week. Self-help

Does anyone know where to find weather information - like when the worst of the storm will hit your area or if it's passed? I can just find news reports saying the east will get it from 2pm, but is the worse over now? Pretty gusty here, the lights have been flickering. Hot water bottles are out and flask filled for tea. Not sure where I read it, but Central Scotland the worst was to be between 2.00pm and 9.00pmIf you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Now safely home - very glad I left when I did (about an hour ago) as the wind's picked up even more since I got in.
So far I have:- Put gas fire onto pilot light so it will still work if the power goes off
- Turned water up so at least I can have a bath / wash hair if the power goes off
- Turned heating on & up to warm the house before the power goes off
- Put batteries into camping lanterns & torches (will be carrying the small torch around with me)
- Put batteries from big torch on for a top-up charge
- Put car into garage (have a few bits from the garage in the lounge but would rather that and the car be safe)
- Dug out corded phone
- Shut all blinds / curtains
Anything else anyone can think of?
It was our recycling day todayfully expected to be bombarded by flying boxes (they are small and very light, like the storage boxes you get from £stretcher etc) but ..... not a single one ANYWHERE:eek:. Goodness knows where they've all ended up - and I bet the council will be bombarded by requests for new ones over the next few days.
Fully expecting the power / phones to go off at some point (lights already flickered a couple of times).
Apparently the highest gust has been 165 MPH:eek: so far......
It's sounding horrendous out there now - I can hear things blowing around which is really worrying me especially the patio doors - I bet there's not much sleeping happens tonight!

I am in the south and Netweather just posted this on FB - chance of tornados!!! The wind is def picking up here but nothing compared to rest of the country.
seeing sudden very heavy rain, with strong gusting winds? check this squall line that is heading slowly south right now. Very intense, narrow band of wind, rain and even a chance of tornadoes. Take it easy out there, this should reach North London around rush hour, so roughly a line from Exeter to Ipswich at that time0 -
The roof of Roslin Primary School (two miles away from me) has collapsed. The council dont know if it is wind related. In any case, thank god the kids were sent home at lunchtime!0

Thanks, I'm just so impatient and want to know when the worst will be - 1) because I don't like surprises and want to be prepared 2)I'd like to see the really bad winds, in a nosey just to see what they're like kind of way.
I'll just sit tight and see what the night brings...I know I'm like a child:o"A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

That's not far from me either. Glad no-one was in it. It's fairly going for it here. Hope you're okay over there skintscotslass"A strong man stands up for himself, a stronger man stands up for others" Barnyard the children's film.

I'm getting worried about Red Doe... She hasn't posted in ages, unless I have missed it. She is very very rural up there so must be getting battered
Anyone heard from her?0 -
Really bad here now, shrieking and whistling and roaring like a plane going over - but we, hens, and puddytat are all fine and we even still have power!
Nope not heard from her on any forums lately.0 -

There are widespread electricity cuts, so she might be cut off and not have internet on her phone.0
