The dangerous wind this week. Self-help

Can I ask, is this 'normal' for central Scotland or is this particularly extreme this time?
I have never been sent home from work because of wind. Snow, yes. Wind, no. I must find out what the difference between 90 mile an hour winds and a hurricane!Police in all regions in Central and Southern Scotland have now said DO NOT TRAVEL. I don't think I've ever heard that before:eek:
Storm now named "Hurricane Bawbag", apparently even Stirling Council are using it in tweets - gotta love our sense of humour
Me neither Cat. When I was driving home, about and hour and a half ago, the M9 north was tailed back from Kincardine to Newbridge and the police had just closed the M9 to high sided vehicles. I have NEVER heard that.
I'm in Penicuik, Midlothian, around 12 miles south west of Edinburgh. My fence has blown down already and we're due the worst starting at 2pm. I am very worried about my trees0 -
Vax its a bit more than windy weather, who are you, Michael Fish? It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

There was a numpty on the netweather forum who posted some flippant remark and was promptly told of several incidents... He conceeded that he was wrong in this instance
Definately some dreadful things happening up there with all that wind.
Keep safe everyone :A0 -
My line manager took an executive decision and told us all to go home as it just got worse and worse and TPTB were taking their time getting back to us about whether we could go home or not. Thanks to him and a concerned colleague, I managed to get somewhere within fairly easy reach of my mum's, where I am now.
Had that not happened, I'd probably be stuck in some train station booking office or similar sitting it out  I was doing nothing at work I couldn't have done at home. In fact I've been so wound up worrying that I haven't been able to focus on work that would have been long complete by now.0 -
If anyone is looking for logs i have a tree in my back garden ready to be cut upIf you dont like me remember its mind over matter, I dont mind and you dont matter0

Like the guy on the BBC report said, the last time I think we had something so bad was on boxing day in 1998.
It was great - I was still a kid at the time and it was so exciting. The wind was quite bad, and then the lights went out and my aunt and uncle and all their kids were at ours and we got torches and candles and started singing songs and playing games with cards and stuff :j After the first week, the enthusiasm had waned a bit :rotfl: We had to be farmed out to our Aunts to get washed
There's just been a picture tweeted with roofs blown off garages
It's getting really dark again here in East Ayrshire and the rain's started battering again.0 -

Well, I don't know why you're all over-reacting - drama queens, the lot of you. Perfectly normal for grown men not to be able to remain upright and for pieces of houses to fly about. I ask you
Oh yes, I don't actually live in Scotland......
Take care girlies and hens and OHs and LOs etc :A
ETA - freyasmum - love your sigx
