  • Unfortunately all the ones round here are "no" - one of the cat rescue is now refusing to rehome cats to people who work full time .....:(

I have thought about greyhounds (but the local greyhound recue won't rehome to full time workers) .... will look into it more when the time is right (too soon for me as yet) but need a cat friendly one and one that won't disappear in open spaces so not sure if that's possible!

we have a lurcher (greyhound/saluki/whippet) cross and a cat, and must say before hubby was made redundant they would spend all day alone with no problem, Bonnie just sleeps all day. The cat is the boss though

Please stop giving StephenLiverpool1 a hard time, he's admitted he's not a dog person, he came on here to ask an opinion of other pet owners, as he was uneasy/unsure of the situation.

I wish more people were prepared to speak up if they felt something wasn't quite right.

In this instance Stephen, a lot of dogs will happily loll around all day, some get more agitated when left alone - as a general rule, those that are confident their owners will be home at a certain time without fretting, albeit 8 hours after they were left, are in the more stable homes, and have a known routine.

OK SG, I've just logged on and am catching up.

Just want to make sure other non dog people wouldn't feel foolish for asking opinions on here in future.
  • Well we're another doggy owner that would find us on the wrong side of the RSPCA.

A couple of times a week Spot may be left for about 8 hrs but he's given a good walk before we go to work as well as afterwards and he has clean water to drink and somewhere dry to sleep if he wants.

On days where we've been going out in the evening, one of us has taken the day off work to make sure he has a plenty of exercise.

I know the RSPCA and other rescue organisations have rules regarding people working and adopting dogs but it seems to me that whilst some forever homes might not be ideal, they would be loving forever homes and yet the organisations seem to prefer to keeping the animals in the kennels.

I'm really disappointed with the majority of responses that I have received today.

I'm not a dog person. I have never owned one. I just had a concern that one of my neighbours may be mis-treating a dog and so posted accordingly.

Unfortunately the majority of posts in response appear to be having a go at me but I don't understand why ! Although I have never owned a dog, I am an animal luver and would never mis-treat any animal or person.

I need to advise that people need to be more understanding and forgiving on this forum; otherwise people will not post anything in future if they have any concerns with regards the welfare of any animal !
  • Thanks for your comments and advice. It make a refreshing change from the majority of the previous comments that I have received on this thread.

I luv all animals and was just trying to get advice before I took any action (which I won't do now !!).

With regards the comments on 'pis* off'', please remember that this is a swear word in the English language and this forum (especially as it involves pets) will be read and contributed by many young people; so my escalation to the forum team was both appropriate and right !

    HTHs.

you were so offended by it that you have repeated it in your above post. wow.

RSPCA have no more power than the local knitting circle to inspect animals or enter private property.

Er no....I didn't repeat it and I weren't offended by it. Read again...I used the words 'Pis* off', which is not the same as quoted in the original posting. As I advised previously, it is a swear word and totally inappropriate for an open forum that can be read by yougsters.

With luck, the MSE user that used this inappropriate term will become toast and PPR'd.;)
    wow.

    Thanks for the compliment.
