But it would be OK for more money ??
No, not for my kids, none of them have ever done a paper round, for the reasons stated, but I do realise that some people may want their kids to earn pocket money or need them to so. At that age I personally think they need to concentrate on school work, sports and getting their rest.0 -
There's always one! Do you reckon the 13y/o has living expenses?
Ease up on the rule book, this is a learning experience for her.An adult wouldn't do it for £8.00 so why should a child? There is no national minimum wage for under 16's so they can pay a pittance, but how many people will pay a considerable amount more for delivered paper? Catch 22!
Have you checked if she is allowed to work 2.5 hours and has she a work permit? (required by law)0 -
Is it for a free paper? They always pay less around here. My son did a round for a newsagent & got £16/week Mon-Sat for about 30 mins per morning. One of the richest streets here & he always cleared over a ton in tips at Xmas!!
He wouldn't get out of bed for £8.00. LolNoli nothis permittere te terere

Er..because a child will have no living expenses?
OP it's not really exploitation any more than thousands of people (adults) doing menial jobs for minimum wage is. Of course they get paid more per hour, but after all living expenses have been accounted for I bet their not left with much more.0 -

Its a bit like any job at that age. Unlikely they NEED to work so depends if it's worth the early mornings and walks? Personally i wouldnt have got up so early at that age for any money but volenteered for no money everyday after school. It just depends what its worth to them. If they are happy enough it will teach them vital skills needed for working life and a great stepping stone.0

A child may not have any living expenses but why does that mean they should be paid such a ridiculously low amount? The payment of any job should be based on the job not the age of the person doing it.0

Rules are there to be broken, however in the case of breaking the law, my concerns would be insurances etc for employees without permits. We are actually talking about child safety here!0 -

!!!!!!? this is why teens get discriminated against. Absolute tosh.
What the employees lifestyle is like is FA to do with the employer.
Maybe you would also suggest folk getting on towards retirement should have their wages cut as they've prob paid off thier mortgage.0 -
