asking cat rescue for "dontation" back?!

Haha Badger, amazing! Seriously though that 75 quid will help the rescue a lot, i wouldnt dream of asking a charity for a donation back.0

Having run a rescue I would rather refund a donation than have an unhappy customer who would bad mouth the rescue around town.
From what you have said I feel there must be some miscommunication between yourself and the rescue as I can't see any reputable rescue 'pushing' a kitten into a home where it could possibly infect another kitten. It might be an idea to put the facts in writing, calmly, and ask for either a healthy kitten or a refund.
I also think your friend should take some responsibility for her cat getting pregnant and having kittens as she chose not to have mum neutered and failed to ensure she did not get mated. I also think it's a bit much to charge a friend for giving one (or two) a good home for life. It would have cost your friend money to abort the kittens or have them euthanized. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

I'm surprised they asked you for payment before you got the kitten. When I got Jimmy from our local rescue, we paid the £50 when we picked him up from his foster home.0

OP gave the donation for the original cat, that was returned to the rescue. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!

Everyone's happy!
Best posting on here yet.......BL, brilliant idea.
OP, look on it as you have helped some animals to have a better life.
The OP didnt 'buy or pay' for a kitten, it was a donation
Personally, I wouldnt have the nerve to ask for it back.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I'm sort of stuck on this one,yes £75 is a lot to loose & have 'nothing to show for it' in return so I'd be inclined to ask for it back, however it's a charity & that £75 would do a lot of good for other cats.Especially if it's a smaller animal charity.
I too am surprised they asked for the donation up front & the amount.Daisy was £40 donation & she was spayed & vaccinated before I got her.
If the OP is going to ask for the donation back, may I suggest she ask for half of it back as opposed to the full amount?...0 -

I have to say, I would never consider that to be a 'refundable deposit' even if it didn't work out with the particular pet I'd adopted.
The donation is in recognition of the cost to the rescue of caring for the animals they take in, it goes towards neutering, microchipping, vet's bills, heating, food, bedding, staffing etc. and rarely covers the actual amount spent.
Its a donation! If you went to a museum and put a fiver in the 'donation' box would you ask for it back if you didn't enjoy the exhibits, or if you got a headache or felt ill after 5 minutes and had to leave?0 -
Forgot to add,the £40 was the best £40 I've ever spent! What I've got in return you cannot put a price on it!0

exactly my dilemma. It was probably wrong to even start a thread about this but i had to canvas opinion! also its not a donation really - its a mandatory donation, basically you are paying for the cat/kitten. I believe good is done with the money but also I feel very upset with the place since the owner tried to disagree with her staff member and say that is would be ok to put a cat flu kitten in my home with a kitten who would be 8 weeks old and not yet vaccinated against it. she forced me to name a date i would come and collect him. I then phoned their head office to enquire if this was how they liked their centres to behave, they agreed with me no! I then spoke to the lady again who apologised and agreed that it is the wrong thing to do and that she was just desperate to home a kitten. So i suggested I could not take on that kitten with our situation and risks it would pose, so I have since been waiting for another kitten to come up. Some of you may think thats funny or have your reasons for thinking badly of me, but now maybe you will see I just really want a companion for my kitten who is coming this weekened and I can't see an end in sight for getting one through the centre for weeks and weeks, which i feel will be too long for this kitten and it will be missing out.0 -
