Phone debranding

i want to debrand my SE K610i that on Orange at the mo.

I really wana get it to the same software as the V630i, where the left middle key is for calling the number. Is that possible?

Thanks for the confirmation. I had seen this on other boards, but no-one had actually outlined the procedure or proofed it. I will try this on my O2 'damaged' (sorry, branded) phone, it might sort out a few quirks that it has, such as why you have to open the keypad to get the screen to show up (surely moving the jogdial should do it) or why pressing the 'exit' button doesnt exit the first time.

if you have a sony ericsson, debranding will make no difference to how you get the screen to show up. I debranded my k750 about a week ago, and the joy stick still won't open the screen

It is a pretty straightforward procedure. Each phone has firmware which is its operating system, a bit like a mini Windows system. The phone manufacturer designs this and installs it on the phone.

Then come along the service providers (O2, Voda etc.) and say "we like you to customize our version" or they customize it themselves. Which they do, by putting their logo on the start up screen, lockinging out some of the functions, changing the menus and button functions plus changing the games, ringtones and wallpaer etc.

By visiting Wotanserver all you are doing is loading the original unadulterated firmware from their bank/library of original firmware. The process basically erases the current firmware, reloads the original and does some checks.

As long as you follow the instructions, which are pretty straightforward, such as attaching the cable and pressing a button usually, you will not have a problem. Two things you have to do to ensure that it goes smoothly are, have a fully charged battery and LEAVE IT ALONE UNTIL IT HAS FINISHED. It can take up to 7 or 8 minutes to do and must not be used during this process.

thats A hardware issue, as the joystick needs a clean as dust and the like has got into it and clogged it up

I'm pleased people are starting to look more at debranding here, it's not right that the networks (not satisfied with hijacking the phones with sim locks) cripple a phone's features by restricting it to old versions they never update just so it suits them. I went up a whole two software versions after debranding my Nokia 6630, and the improvement is fantastic.

I have just successfully debranded my Nokia 6630 on Orange. That awful Orange "Homescreen" bugged the life out of me so I'm glad to see it gone forever!
