Since when was lateness gross misconduct?

Unless you agreed some very special terms when you were taken on you can be sacked for any reason (or none) during the first year as long as it not for one of the handful of reasons protected by law. This goes up to two years in April.

You either need to agree some new flexible terms with your employer (and they don't have to) or find a reliable way of getting there on time.

The bus problems are not your fault (although you could no doubt set out earlier to be on the safe side) but they are certainly not the employers fault either.

    Sorry!

I did not suggest it was. You have been there eight weeks, they don't need a valid reason to get rid of you.

As you have only worked for 8 weeks there they don't have to have a reason to show you the door, it doesn't have to be misconduct.

I know I know, as an MI Analyst in the past I am fully aware of things from the company prespective, however I had team leaders fighting for special terms for staff members when they couldn't get in, the team leaders here are the ones that are against their staff. Can't win.

As for setting off early, I'm 45 minutes bloody early every day.

  • it sucks i agree, but as far as company are concerend you were late wich yolu were and that is not the companies fault, they have asked you to make it up tomorrow. and you have been there 8 weeks. you need to make it up tomorrow dont build a reputation as trouble maker this early on. if it was me i would just go and do it all in one day like they said to keep them happy, they are the ones paying me after all.

and you need to look at a nother way of getting there mroe reliably driving lessons perhaps ? scooter? bike?

Get a mobile phone and numbers for taxi firms so the next time it happens instead of to ing and frowing between home and work you call for a taxi and get to work. I know its easy with hindsight but to prevent it happening again get a mobile phone.
