The Death of Mozilla Firefox

I'll start by saying that I am not a techie - I am as far removed from a techie as you can get!

Anyway - I was using FF up until 3 or 4 months ago when it started crashing all the time, taking ages to load etc etc. I went to chrome and have never looked back - its ace! A thumbs up from me!

whilst I've never been a FF fan, it will be sad if it dies. More competition has to be good in the browser sector, to keep t'other big guns on their toes.

I was sad when Mozilla (the browser) fell by the wayside, but I was also sad to see the end of Netscape Navigator and Mosaic...

Firefox is great with all the add-ons that are available for it, and (although I get a few strange "glitches" with it from time to time), it's still my favourite browser. The open-source versions of Firefox (IceWeasel et al) would suggest that the browser isn't just going to be abandoned any time soon... bishes.

No way would I trust a browser from Google - their whole revenue stream depends upon analysing and predicting user behaviour. If I were them, I'd find it too tempting not to spy on users to some extent! Also the browser UI isn't as logically laid out as Firefox and there are hardly any good extensions for it. The only good point is that it processes media-rich pages quickly and tends not to crash so easily.

Firefox (or rather, Mozilla Foundation) was around years before Google gave them that money. Just because Google aren't paying doesn't mean FF is going anywhere. It has a massive user base, and yes, Chrome's is growing.
My experience of Chrome is that it's nice and clean and shiny at the start, and seems faster than FF, but as above, once a few tabs are open, it's the same amount of RAM, and the same slowdown. And it's not as customisable. But you can play Angry Birds!

Exactly, especially not since Microsoft have just struck a deal to have Bing integrated with FF, including a revenue share.

Besides, if you really want to play the "my browser has more users than your browser" game, then Internet Explorer is still king

The game actually seems to be "My browser has LESS users than your browser".

FF was/is incredibly important - in offering a choice, forcing other browsers to up their game, and bringing innovation to the "market". I for one hope it continues. I suspect it will.

I went back to IE9 because I had a few prob's with FF. Now I use both, for different things. FF Print Preview/Print is better, but I cannot access Webmail in FF, as the last update blew it away. Recently, I have noticed "Bloat" in IE9, as told by grumpycrab. I may try Opera.

It's called choice, aka Voting With Your Feet.
