I was just wondering does companies like actually have more power than an individual doing it by themselves?

    In a word - no. :)

Just do it yourself - companies such as that are of no use.

Anyways I have just had a phone call from the same company who basically said to me by trying to do it myself means the bank will more than likely just give you a settlement figure of half the total I am requesting for rather than repay you the whole amount. Where as if I had done it with them I would have been better off.

They are talking absolute and utter rubbish. They have no more 'power' at all. You can do it yourself and keep everything! All the info you need is here and free!

    No they dont!
But unlike most of us they are not daunted by the prospect of courts and big bank names.

As an individual we are more likely to settle when a bank offers what we think is reasonable!
I think we all have an idea in our heads about what amount we would accept if the bank were to offer.
In the companies eyes the more they get for you, the more THEY get for themselves (of your money) So are more likely to drag it out to the court stage in order to get the maximum amount plus interest ( which you would also pay 25%)

much better to do it yourself, with the help and encouragement of this site. YOU CAN DO IT.
    Good Luck.:rotfl:

    Hi

Following the info on this site I sent my letters off last week (to my bank and credit cards). Whilst I'm still waiting to hear from them the mere thought of a company taking on this task for me and taking part of the cash too all for a few hours work is unthinkable.

Knowledge is power - the more we learn about all this financial stuff for ourselves the better off we'll be. There are plenty of people here to help you bust the jargon if you need help.

Be brave - do it yourself!!

The satisfaction i had when posting my letters was immense.

DO IT YOURSELF - these people cant get a respone any quicker than you can and they'll take 1/4 of your money for the pleasure.

everybody on here is DIYin it and getting results - go for it yourself

You can do it quicker AND cheaper yourself! All the info is on this board, there are plenty of people to help you all the way, and it isn't rocket science - in fact it is relatively easy! They don't do anything else that you would, and it is BS thinking they would get better results.
    Reclaimed thanks to this site:

I think I know which company you are talking about as my partner is going through it with them at the moment, and their letters are just worded differently that's all. I didn't fancy doing it that way as it was my money to begin with, so why should I lose it to a bank the first time, and gain it back only to pay a quarter of it to someone else?! No thanks! Stick with it this way, you'll soon see results and you'll be better off too!

I have discovered a company called Conkers who help you reclaim your bank charges. I assume they do the work and ask for a cut. Im wondering if thier reputation is good or not?

    Anyone heard of them?
    You probably have :)
